spaghetti pomodoro, a simple dish, but
thanks to its perfectly cooked pasta and

14:30 My inspiration
If you didn’t have to book in advance to
see Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper
at Santa Maria Delle Grazie, I’d pop in
there more often on my way to Rossana
Orlandi’s gallery on Via Matteo Bandello .
She finds all the great new designers, and
sells their products there. From accessories
to mirrors, lighting and wallpapers,
everything is effortlessly chic – right
down to the loosely arranged fresh flowers.
Talking to her is a treat. She’s full of energy
and fuses traditional and contemporary
elements without being disruptive.
15:00 You are what you wear
My outfit comprises three elements:
flat shoes without laces, jewels from the
Italian brand Pomellato, and a turban.
I get bespoke ones handmade at Altalen ,
a small atelier on Via Benvenuto Cellini
a short metro ride away from Orlandi's
gallery. As my grandfather was from
Persia, the turban is in my cultural DNA.
Within the first six months of wearing it,
200 people approached me to ask where
they could get one. By wearing it as a
fashion statement, I realised I was helping
detach it from its association with cancer,
which hopefully makes women who have
to wear it because of their illness feel
more comfortable in doing so. Altalen
and I donated 100 handmade turbans to
cancer patients, and I’m now trying to
find a manufacturer that can make 10,000
turbans for the Breast Cancer Foundation.
17:00 Long-lasting style
Fashion designer Stephan Janson’s showroom
on Via Goldoni is only a short
walk away from Altalen hidden away in
a small garden which you enter through
a beautiful, old stone archway – it’s like
a different world. In Milan, we prefer to
have less, but of higher quality. Stephan’s
timeless clothes you’ll wear for years. I
like his cotton jersey dress so much, I’ve
bought it in eight different colours.
19:30 Aperitivo options
I usually opt for something Camparibased
for my pre-dinner aperitivo such
as Spritz (with white wine) or Negroni
(with gin and vermouth rosso). Dry, a
bar on Via Solferino , offers the best
cocktail and pizza pairings in town, but
I’m happy with a focaccia as a pre-dinner
snack, listening to the Mykonos-style
instrumental music.
21:30 Dinner alla Milanese
Milan is famous for its risotto, and the
place to have it is Pisacco, just opposite
the bar Dry and managed by the same
people. Risotto alla Milanese is made
with Parmesan, white wine and saffron,
and Pisacco have conjured up a supertasty
version which isn’t as heavy as in
other restaurants. My friends and I often
end up at the sharing table where we can
sit and eat without booking in advance.
