Verdienstkreuz am Bande des Verdienstordens der Bundesrepublik
Deutschland.
30 Years of Charity – KölnBall 2018
On Saturday, September 29, the KölnBall, founded by
Brigitte Christoph in 1988, celebrated its 30th anniversary. In three
decades, the KölnBall collected over six million euros in donations
that benefited various children’s hospitals and institutions.
This year’s ball night was hosted by moderators Andreas von
Thien and Birgit von Bentzel. Harry Wijnvoord moderated the
main prize raffle. Henriette Reker, mayor of Cologne, was also
patron of the anniversary edition of the KölnBall. RTL Exclusiv
presenter and society expert Frauke Ludowig sponsored the anniversary
gala.
Soprano Ludmila Larusso opened the show program of the evening.
As a musical star guest, Thomas Anders drew the guests to
the dance floor and delighted the audience with many hits from the
80s and 90s, including »You Are Not Alone« and »You Can
Win If You Want«.
The Flavius and Eurosound show band provided the musical
background for the rest of the evening, and until the early hours of
the morning, the DJ team Marco Maribello worked the turntables.
Host Brigitte Christoph presented the symbolic cheque for
50,890 euros to Dr. Dr. Aram Prokop, under whose leadership the
»AG Experimentelle Onkologie« is developing new, better active
substances against malignant cancers that can overcome the resistance
of tumour cells to conventional drugs. The Cologne-based
research institution looks after children and young people from all
over Germany and is dependent on donations as there is no
research budget at municipal hospitals.
»The commitment and success of the working group led by Dr. Dr.
Aram Prokop and financed exclusively by donations are deeply
impressive. Children who had already undergone therapy were able
to survive thanks to the research of the working group. I am happy
and proud that the KölnBall is supporting this valuable work with
its donations also in the anniversary year,« says Brigitte
Christoph, who received the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the
Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for her voluntary
commitment to needy children and young people in need for
more than a quarter of a century in 2014.
