green, green, green
Since the beginning of 2018, Little Greene has been
working with the National Trust. As a result of this collaboration,
an extensive colour research project was carried out in National
Trust Houses and Gardens in England, Wales and Northern
Ireland to find the original colours and tell the stories of the people
who first enjoyed these colours. As with Little Greene’s previous
Capsule Collections, including Grey, Blue and Pink, Little Greene
has identified a special selection of 31 beautiful shades of green,
each with a remarkable origin and an important position in
contemporary interior design. These include 20 colours derived
from the National Trust and some important greens from the Little
Greene archive. The current colour chart was also taken into
account. Inspired by such diverse sources like Beatrix Potter's farmhouse
in Cumbria, George Bernard Shaw’s rotating writing hut
and even mystical birds on the wallpaper hung by Chippendale in
Nostell Priory, the new colour card includes some interesting stories
and a range of splendid greens in a wide range of shades. As usual
with Little Greene, the card and its contents are designed to be
easy to use. Divided into five columns, the collection is loosely
arranged to represent each of the major green families: grey, neutral,
yellow, blue and turquoise greens.
Little Greene’s Managing Director, David Mottershead, is delighted
by the new collection. »With access to over 350 major historic
interiors managed by the National Trust, we had a unique
opportunity to immerse ourselves in a prestigious and diverse mix
of decorative styles. It was a fascinating task, and with such a wealth
of resources at our disposal, the hardest part was to process the
material to create a range of colours to work with in modern interior
design.« Clare Brown, Head of Brand Licensing at the National
Trust, adds, »We are delighted to be working with Little Greene to
help everyone bring national cultural heritage into their own homes.
The choice of greens for this first collaboration is inspiring: it is the
colour of the National Trust and evokes images of gardens and vast
landscapes that we receive for the joy of the nation«.
A small portion of the proceeds from the sale of each Little Greene
paint can will go to the National Trust's work to ensure that the
historic buildings and landscapes are preserved as open spaces for
future generations.
