Musical Holidays<br />
As in previous years, the <strong>Köln</strong>er<br />
Philharmonie will ring in the Christmas<br />
holidays on Christmas Eve at 3 p.m. with<br />
a series of Christmas compositions. The<br />
brass players of the <strong>Köln</strong>er Dommusik, the<br />
<strong>Köln</strong>er Domchor and the Mädchenchor at<br />
the <strong>Köln</strong>er Dom would like to shorten the<br />
time until the presents are handed out and<br />
get you in the mood for the festivities.<br />
On Christmas Day, the soprano Dorothee<br />
Mields and the Freiburger BarockConsort<br />
will present compositions by the Italian<br />
baroque composer Alessandro Scarlatti, who<br />
is regarded as the innovator of baroque music.<br />
On December 26, three of the best of a<br />
generation will perform in a chamber music<br />
concert. They are all in their early thirties<br />
and have conquered the stages of the world<br />
in a short time. Cellist Isang Enders, violin<br />
virtuoso Veronika Eberle and the pianist<br />
Igor Levit will play pieces by Johann<br />
Sebastian Bach, Ferruccio Busoni and<br />
Franz Schubert.<br />
On the following evening, the Repercussion<br />
ensemble presents a range of pieces from<br />
Bach to percussion classics to modern music.<br />
Artists of the visual art group Warped Type<br />
put the sounds artistically and visually on a<br />
screen.<br />
On December 28 and 29, pianist Chilly<br />
Gonzales will play two concerts of his current<br />
tour »Solo Piano III«.<br />
Two days later, the year of the Cologne<br />
Philharmonic ends in three-four time with<br />
the WDR Symphony Orchestra under chief<br />
conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste, the WDR<br />
Radio Choir and the excellent piano duo<br />
Gülru Ensari & Herbert Schuch.<br />
