MASTER OF BRONZE SCULPTURE<br />
The artist's diverse bronze figures convince through their<br />
artistic liveliness. The animal sculptures, for example, are<br />
masterpieces of representational realism. They enchant<br />
the viewer on the one hand through the power they<br />
radiate, and on the other hand through the plasticity<br />
and play of colour in the material.<br />
However, it was not the fine arts that captivated Nikos W.<br />
Dettmer at the beginning of his career. His first love was<br />
music and opera. And so his artistic career developed<br />
only after he had studied opera with Professor August<br />
Everding and trained as a classical singer.<br />
Work on stage and the desire to make emotions visible<br />
in facial expressions and gestures led him to sculpture<br />
and painting. The first bronzes show opera figures, only<br />
later were animal sculptures and portrait busts added.<br />

The bronze series of gestural abstraction emerged from<br />
his preoccupation with Far Eastern philosophy. The<br />
work "Love Barometer", for example, reveals the artist's<br />
sense of humour: The bronze couple shown is movable.<br />
They can be arranged in different ways – facing each<br />
other or back to back – depending on the mood and<br />
state of mind of the viewer.<br />
