RF & Wireless
Support for IEEE 802.11ax 6-GHz-Band OTA Measurements
The Microwave Vision Group
(MVG) and Anritsu Corporation
are pleased to announce a
new solution supporting IEEE
802.11ax 6 GHz band (WiFi 6E)
OTA measurements by combining
an MVG multi-probe system
and Anritsu’s MT8862A
Wireless Connectivity Test Set.
The 6 GHz band in the 802.11ax
standard is the first new frequency
band for about 20 years.
As an unlicensed band, it supports
a bandwidth of 1.2 up
to 7.125 GHz with 160 MHz
channels for high data throughput.
First use of the unlicensed
6 GHz band started in the USA
as a result of collaboration between
the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) and
leading technology companies
and there is a worldwide movement
to adopt and use this band,
with many countries already in
operation.
Assuring product RF performance
quality is a new challenge
in using the 6 GHz band
efficiently. OTA measurements
and RF performance checks help
solve this challenge to support
products with stable performance
and faster speeds for better customer
satisfaction. the MT8862A
and thus support OTA measurements
of the 6 GHz I02.11ax
band (Wi-Fi 6E).
MVG multi-probe OTA test systems
equipped with an Anritsu
MT8862A support an effective,
simple, and stable test environment
for RF evaluation of the
new WiFi 6 spectrum extension,
WiFi 6E. MVG multi-probe
systems are suited to measure
antennas and perform OTA
testing of wireless devices of
all sizes. Delivering ultra-fast
results, MVG multi-probe systems
enable 3D visualization
of antenna radiation patterns of
devices under test through a fast
electronic scan of its probe array.
Using only a single axis azimuth
positioner, it minimizes scattering
caused by the positioning
system, resulting in more accurate
measurements. The product
line ranges from compact portable
test systems to particular
measurement solutions that
accommodate very heavy DUTs.
MVG multi-probe systems,
including a majority of those previously
installed, can be associated
with the MT8862A and thus
support OTA measurements of
the 6 GHz IEEE 802.11ax band
(WiFi 6E).
Anritsu’s MT8862A Wireless
Connectivity Test Set is the
only all-in-one test solution for
WLAN RF measurements supporting
IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/
ax, and the 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz
frequency bands with 160 MHz
channel bandwidths. With its stable
wide-dynamic-range communications,
it is the ideal OTA
measurement solution.
Ultrawideband RF Amplifier
Rohde & Schwarz announced the widest
band, most flexible broadband RF amplifier
available on the market. The new R&S
BBA300 family provides a single amplifier
solution that eliminates the need to
switch instruments or bands during a test.
This facilitates testing on automotive and
ultrawide band wireless communication
radios for example.
The unique features of the new R&S
BBA300 family include its continuous
ultrawide frequency range from 380 MHz to
6 GHz in a single amplifier. This is believed
to be an industry first. It comprehensively
addresses the requirements of EMC test
centres, RF component designers and product
design & validation. The new broadband
amplifiers are a major advance on
existing Rohde & Schwarz amplifiers for
development and product validation tests
in quality assurance, and in the development
and production of RF components.
The new broadband amplifiers offer outstanding
RF performance over this wide
bandwidth ensuring dependable test results
over the entire frequency range. Initially,
two models are available. The BBA300-DE
operates from 1 to 6 GHz and the BBA300-
CDE offers 380 MHz to 6 GHz capability.
The all-new design extends through its
mechanical aspects, software, and RF
design, delivering flexible and robust RF
performance. The R&S BBA300 family’s
design and manufacture ensure excellent
linearity and outstanding noise power
density (as low as -110 dBm/Hz). It also
ensures excellent harmonic performance
(down to -25 dBc). Intelligent protection
features ensure high availability, even in
the event of component failure. Rohde &
Schwarz’s high-quality design and manufacturing
provide resilience against all forms
of mismatch. With self-protection built-in,
the instruments are robust against RF mismatch
up to SWR of 6.
The R&S BBA300 models benefit from
numerous smart settings and activation
functions, which readily adapt instruments’
settings and behaviour according to the
application. The amplifier design offers the
ability to realise a broad array of customer
system setups, offering high flexibility and
scalability, with upgradable frequency and
power. This makes it easy for customers to
expand their systems, building upon their
initial investment.
