Safety, quality and environmental friendliness are paramount
in the new Airbus A380. For this reason, the EADS consortium
chose seat coverings for the first A380 that best meet all these
requirements. They selected the product Climatex ® Lifeguard
FR made by the Swiss company Lantal. Behind this product
name are Lenzing FR ® viscose fibers.
What is special about these seat coverings, apart from being
extremely flame retardant, is that they provide a high degree of
seating comfort and an optimal “seating climate”, which is particularly
important for long-haul flights. This is because of the high
degree of breathability and good moisture management offered
by Lenzing FR ® .
In the selection of material, ecological considerations also
played an important role. Fabrics made from Lenzing FR ® are
compostable and do not contain any toxic materials or environmentally
harmful chemicals.
From a couple of thousand dyes, only 16 were chosen that
met these stringent requirements. The new Airbus is exceptionally
environmentally friendly, and Lenzing FR ® has played an important
contributory role in this. ◆

When the new megajet Airbus A380 took off on its maiden flight on 27
April 2005, Lenzing went along for the ride: the seats on this super jet
are made with materials produced from Lenzing FR ® fibers.
Als am 27. April 2005 der neue Großraumjet Airbus A380 zu seinem Erstflug
abhob, war auch Lenzing mit an Bord. Denn die Sitze dieses ersten
Super-Airbus sind mit Stoffen ausgerüstet, die aus Lenzing FR ® Fasern
hergestellt wurden.

Sicherheit, Qualität und Umweltschutz stehen beim neuen Airbus
A380 an oberster Stelle. Daher entschied sich das
EADS-Konsortium bei der Ausrüstung des ersten A380 für Sitzbezüge,
die all diesen Anforderungen optimal entsprechen. Die
Wahl fiel auf das Produkt Climatex ® Lifeguard FR des Schweizer
Unternehmens Lantal. Hinter dieser Produktbezeichnung stehen
Lenzing FR ® Viscosefasern.
Das Besondere an diesem Sitzbezug ist – neben der Eigenschaft,
schwer entflammbar zu sein – der außergewöhnliche
Sitzkomfort und ein optimales „Sitzklima“, das gerade bei Langstreckenflügen
sehr wichtig ist. Das liegt in der Atmungsaktivität
und dem guten Feuchtigkeits-Management von Lenzing FR ®
begründet.
Ein besonderes Kriterium für die Auswahl des Stoffes waren
auch ökologische Überlegungen. Die Gewebe mit Lenzing FR ® sind
kompostierbar und enthalten keine toxischen Ausrüstungen.
Aus einigen tausend Farbstoffen wurden daher nur 16 ausgewählt,
die diesen strengen Anforderungen entsprechen. Der
neue Airbus gilt als besonders umweltfreundlich und Lenzing FR ®
leistet dazu einen wichtigen Beitrag. ◆
