Neues von LS-DYNA,
LS-PrePost und LS-Opt
For engineers working in the area of numerical simulation, the
powerful, explicit and implicit analysis software LS-DYNA is wellknown
nowadays. But do you also know the companions of LS-
DYNA i.e. LS-OPT and LS-PrePost developed by LSTC?
At that time when Livermore Software Technology Corporation
(LSTC) was founded in 1987 by Dr. John O. Hallquist the main
focus was to commercialize and further develop LS-DYNA.
Originated from the public domain software code for explicit
analyses (DYNA3D) LS-DYNA changed meanwhile to a multipurpose
fi nite element program capable to analyse the nonlinear
static and dynamic response of structures. LSTC’s development
is focused on a one code methodology that includes implicit,
explicit or thermal solver. All solvers are available in shared or
distributed memory computations. Moreover LS-DYNA is optimized
on all platforms including clusters running Unix, Linux, and
Windows operating systems. Most prominent application areas
are for example crashworthiness, occupant/pedestrian safety,
and sheet metal forming.
Recent developments in LS-DYNA 971 deal with realistic modelling
of spot welds, addition of perturbation for implicit buckling
analyses, and defi nition of parameter expressions within the input
fi le, to name just a few of them.
Beside that continuously progress in LS-DYNA capabilities, two
software companions are additionally developed by LSTC: LS-Pre-
Post and LS-OPT. For LS-DYNA users, both are free of charge.
LS-PrePost
LS-PrePost is an advanced interactive program for preparing input
data for LS-DYNA and processing the results from LS-DYNA ana-
LS-DYNA at the 23rd CADFEM Users´ Meeting
November 9 – 11, 2005, Bundeshaus Bonn, Germany
This year´s conference provides on all three days an attractive
agenda for LS-DYNA users as well as engineers interested
in explicit analysis:
• Workshop on Crashworthiness Simulation with Paul Du Bois
(Wednesday, Nov. 9)
• Sessions dedicated to i.e. Crash, Impact, Metalforming
(Thursday, Nov. 10)
• LS-DYNA User Group Meeting, Developers from LSTC
will be present
(Friday, Nov. 11)
lyses. The user interface is intuitive and easy to use. All data and
menus are designed in a logical and effi cient way to minimize
number of mouse clicks and operations. LS-PrePost runs on all
Unix/Linux workstations and MS Windows computers utilizing
the OpenGL graphics standard to achieve fast rendering and XY
plotting.
LS-OPT
LS-OPT is a standalone design optimization and probabilistic
analysis package with an interface to LS-DYNA. The optimization
capability in LS-OPT is based on response surface methodology
and design of experiments. The D-optimality criterion is
used for the effective distribution of sampling points in order
to have an effective generalization of the design response. A
successive response surface method allows convergence of the
design response. Additionally LS-OPT enables the investigation of
stochastic effects using Monte Carlo simulation involving either
direct FE analysis or analysis of surrogate models such as response
surface methodology or neural networks. As an input distribution,
any of a series of statistical distributions such as normal,
uniform, beta, Weibull or user-defi ned can be specifi ed. Latin
hypercube sampling provides an effi cient way of implementing
the input distribution. Histograms and infl uence plots are available
through the postprocessor (Version 2.2).
Currently LS-OPT runs on Unix/Linux platforms.
