Care and Support for HIV/AIDS-Affected People
and Families
To protect and promote the food security status of
HIV/AIDS-affected families, through food security
interventions such as gardening and agriculture, incomegenerating
activities, microcredit, community banking
and other activities requiring training through the use of
food and/or related resources.
• Estimated HIV prevalence rates are high enough to
warrant designing and implementing food security
interventions designed to take into account the effects
of HIV/AIDS; and
• HIV/AIDS-affected families are at elevated risk of food
insecurity, and thus of worse health and nutritional
status; and
• Food security interventions need external support
and training/capacity building until local sustainable
solutions are found; and
• Food is an appropriate resource to use for
this external support
