Kenneth Grant, in one <strong>of</strong> his more well-known statements said<br />

“Parsons opened a door and something flew in.” This recalls <strong>the</strong> earlier<br />

discussion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Enochian Apocalypse by Donald Tyson and, even<br />

though he does not mention Parsons in that essay, was surely familiar<br />

with <strong>the</strong> story. One thing that is striking, however, is that while<br />

Parsons certainly was devoted to magick, it does not appear from <strong>the</strong><br />

records we have that he set out to kick start Armageddon. Ra<strong>the</strong>r, as<br />

his letter to Crowley, quoted above shows; l have had <strong>the</strong> most<br />

important - devastating experience <strong>of</strong> my life between February 2 and<br />

March 4. I believe it was <strong>the</strong> result <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 9th working with <strong>the</strong> girl who<br />

answered my elemental summons. This seems to indicate that, indeed<br />

as Grant says, Parsons opened a door - and whatever was waiting on<br />

<strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r side allowed Parsons to think it was in fact <strong>the</strong> Goddess<br />

Babalon.<br />

But was it? And if so, what is <strong>the</strong> nature <strong>of</strong> such a being?<br />
