Revelation is not a vision <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> End <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> World, but merely <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Aion. 63 <strong>The</strong>refore, if <strong>the</strong> Beast (as he saw himself) was a symbolic<br />

rendering <strong>of</strong> a spiritual force and also represented by a living person,<br />

so too Babalon may be so represented. And, in fact, Crowley does<br />

make this connection:<br />

Although Crowley <strong>of</strong>ten wrote that Babalon and <strong>the</strong> Scarlet Woman<br />

are one, <strong>the</strong>re are also many instances where <strong>the</strong> Scarlet Woman is<br />

seen more as a representative or physical manifestation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

universal feminine principle. In a footnote to Liber Reguli, Crowley<br />

mentions that <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> “Gods <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Aeon,” <strong>the</strong> Scarlet Woman and <strong>the</strong><br />

Beast are “<strong>the</strong> earthly emissaries <strong>of</strong> those Gods.” He <strong>the</strong>n writes in<br />

Commentaries:<br />

It is necessary to say here that <strong>The</strong> Beast appears to be a<br />

definite individual; to wit, <strong>the</strong> man Aleister Crowley. But <strong>the</strong><br />

Scarlet Woman is an <strong>of</strong>ficer replaceable as need arises. Thus to<br />

this present date <strong>of</strong> writing, Anno XVI, Sun in Sagittarius, <strong>the</strong>re<br />

have been several holders <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> title. 64<br />

It is a tribute to Crowley’s ego that he saw that <strong>the</strong> representative <strong>of</strong><br />

Babalon was an <strong>of</strong>fice that could be held by any number <strong>of</strong> women,<br />

but <strong>the</strong> Beast was Crowley and no o<strong>the</strong>r. Kenneth Grant discusses this<br />

concept in detail in his Typhonian Trilogies and <strong>the</strong> interested reader is<br />

Aion, Greek for ‘Age’ is used for instance, in <strong>the</strong> Gospels relating to <strong>the</strong> establishment <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> New Covenant and <strong>the</strong> destruction <strong>of</strong> Jerusalem as in <strong>the</strong> ‘little Apocalypse’ <strong>of</strong> Mat<strong>the</strong>w<br />

24:<br />

Mat<strong>the</strong>w: 24 : 1 And Jesus went out from <strong>the</strong> temple, and was going on his way; and his<br />

disciples came to him to show him <strong>the</strong> buildings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> temple.<br />

Mat<strong>the</strong>w: 24 : 2 But he answered and said unto <strong>the</strong>m, See ye not all <strong>the</strong>se things? verily I say<br />

unto you, <strong>The</strong>re shall not be left here one stone upon ano<strong>the</strong>r, that shall not be thrown down.<br />

Mat<strong>the</strong>w: 24 : 3 And as he sat on <strong>the</strong> mount <strong>of</strong> Olives, <strong>the</strong> disciples came unto him privately,<br />

saying, Tell us, when shall <strong>the</strong>se things be? and what `shall be` <strong>the</strong> sign <strong>of</strong> thy coming, and <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> world?<br />

It should be noted that <strong>the</strong> Greek for <strong>the</strong> “world” in “end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> world” is actually AION, or<br />

age. Considering that <strong>the</strong> world is still here more than 2000 years later, we are, I think,<br />

justified in seeing <strong>the</strong> Revelation as a description <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new Age (<strong>of</strong> Pisces) and its<br />

subsequent end at <strong>the</strong> dawn <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Age <strong>of</strong> Aquarius (or as Crowley would have called it, <strong>the</strong><br />

Aeon <strong>of</strong> Horus)<br />
