Cortex of NSH 3 is thin, mottled, and at some points ohlitcrated compared to ci)ntrol. Radiographic evidence of cysts within bones was not common. The costochondral junction of rib 10 on the right side of NSH 3 con- tained one large resorption cyst approximately 8 mm. in diameter (Fig. 22). Only ribs 3 and 10 on the right side were radiographed. The proximal epiphyseal line of the radius in NSI-I 2 and 3 was widened at scattered points projecting 2 to 3 mm. into the metaphysis. The control colt's bones were in marked contrast with those of the affected animals; they completely lacked the changes seen in the bones of the diseased animals (Figs. 18-22). 4. Pathologic Anatomy The nutritional condition was good in all four animals. Each colt showed a mild gastric myiasis (G'as/rophihs spp.) and a mild intestinal ascariasis (Parascaris eqmrum). Otherwise gross changes were present only in the parathyroids and the slieleton. a) 1'arathyroid.r The size and weight of the upper parathyroids are summarized in Table XIX. The glands of all four colts had a finely lobulated external appearance. The cut surface of glands of the control horse and NSI-I 1 maintained a lobulated appearance, whereas it was smooth and more evenly filled with parenchymal tissue in NSIH 2 and 3. 11) .I'ke/CtOJ7 NSH 1. No gross lesion was noted. NSH 2. The face had a swollen appearance. The facial crest blended diffusely into the moderately swollen maxilla so that the anterior extremity of the crest was hardly visible.
