Thick-fleshed fruits are very sweet and flavorful, making<br />

Minnesota, who grew the variety at least 40 years ago.<br />

MRS. AQUILLARDS CUSHAW #SQ261 New!<br />
(C. mixta) 105 days. Mrs. Aquillard grew and sold these<br />
squashes in Chainainger, Evangeline Parish, Louisiana,<br />
for many years. There, she would wheel out a shopping<br />
cart full, leave it alongside the road, and her customers<br />
would leave money in a box. As a landrace type, this<br />
includes a number of forms and colors, including white<br />
long neck and short neck types, some stripes and some<br />
golden. Originally collected by our friend Kurt Bridges.<br />

(C. moschata) 120 days. These gorgeous, big, flat<br />
pumpkins are shaped like large wheels of cheese and<br />
are heavily lobed and ribbed. The skin is a beautiful,<br />
rich brown color when ripe. The flesh is deep orange,<br />
thick, and very fine flavored; fruit grow to 20 lbs each.<br />
This traditional variety from southern France is great<br />

(C. pepo) 100 days. The noted small sugar pumpkin of New<br />
England. The orange fruit weigh 4-5 lbs and have fine,<br />
sweet flesh that is superb for pies. Described by Fearing<br />

(C. moschata) 100-110 days. 6-8 lb spotted fruits start<br />
out grey-green, turning yellowish when ripe. Shapes<br />
vary from a round, slightly flattened pumpkin to a<br />
more unusual bottle shape. Flesh is very thick, grading<br />
from intense orange nearest the skin to very pale in<br />
the interior. Flesh not particularly sweet; our grower<br />
recommends it for savory recipes rather than dessert<br />
uses. Originated among the Laotian Hmong people.<br />
