75-80 days. This heirloom is another of the varieties sold<br />

by Glecklers Seedsmen in the 1950’s. The fruit is the shape<br />

and size of a medium-sized egg, with thick, pinkish-red<br />

flesh that is rich and perfect for preserving or eating fresh.<br />

The smooth fruit keep very well; very delicious and good<br />

FLORADADE #TM135<br />

Determinate. 78 days. Right from Dade County, Florida,<br />

comes a winning tomato for the humid South. It was<br />

developed by the U of FL to be resistant to the many<br />

problems that affect tomatoes in the South. Nice-sized 5<br />

to 7 oz. fruit are round and smooth; determinate plants<br />

GERMAN RED STRAWBERRY #TM128<br />

85 days. Big, flavorful 1-pound fruit are shaped like giant<br />

strawberries. These beautiful tomatoes are loaded with a<br />

rich, sweet flavor and have few seeds. With only a small<br />

amount of seeds or juice, they are great for canning and<br />

sandwiches. This superior-tasting tomato is a family<br />

GEZAHNTE #TM238 New!<br />

80 days. Here is a lovely paste-type, originating in Naples,<br />

Italy, but arriving by way of Frau Isabella Buhrer-Keel of<br />

Basil, Switzerland. Lavishly pleated fruits come in all sizes<br />

up to 6 ounces, sometimes a bit more. The name means<br />

“toothed” in German, and slices certainly present this<br />

appearance. Semi-hollow fruit are firm and mild-tasting;<br />

great for stuffing. Very productive, even in hot, dry<br />

GOLDMAN’S ITALIAN-AMERICAN #TM203<br />

80 days. Unique, beautiful and large tomatoes have a<br />

squat, pear shape, being ribbed and pleated. These have<br />

a bloody, intense red color when ripe. Thick, red flesh is<br />

perfect for delicious sauces and preserves. Found at a<br />

roadside stand in Italy by Amy Goldman, and named after<br />

her father’s grocery store in Brooklyn. This variety has<br />

HOMESTEAD #TM115<br />

Semi-determinate. 80-83 days. Developed in the 1950’s for<br />

growers in Florida and the southern states, this tomato is<br />

productive and wilt-resistant. At one time, this was a very<br />

popular shipping variety. Firm, tasty flesh. Pkt $1.75<br />

ILLINI STAR #TM129<br />

65-75 days. The star in any garden, this winner was<br />

developed by our friends, Merlyn & Mary Ann Niedens.<br />

This variety sets on heavily with 6-oz round, red fruit with<br />

superior flavor for an early type. For quick and steady<br />

production, this one is hard to beat. The vines need little<br />

ILLINOIS BEAUTY #TM168<br />

An excellent home and market garden variety with great<br />

flavor. A heavy producer of 4-to6-ounce fruits which<br />

are usually free of any blemishes or cracks. This diseaseresistant<br />

type sets fruit in hot, dry summers and produces<br />

prolifically all season—six plants yielded nine gallons<br />

of tomatoes the first picking and six gallons the second<br />

picking! A lucky, accidental cross with some of the best<br />

INGEGNOLI GIGANTE LISCIO #TM162<br />

75 days. Giant fruit grow up to 2 lbs or more. Bright red,<br />

quite sweet and rich tasting, excellent for home gardeners<br />

who want old-fashioned flavor. Developed in Italy around<br />

1900 from a cross of the old varieties “Ponderosa” and<br />

“Saint Louis.” Hard to find now! Pkt $2.25<br />

JERSEY DEVIL #TM235 New!<br />

90 days. Pendulant, pointed, pepper-like fruits are slow<br />

to set on but yield very heavily. 5-6-inch, ruby-red,<br />

paste-type fruits are very meaty and have but few seeds.<br />

Incredible flavor. This variety was another pillar of the New<br />

Jersey tomato industry, and is an ancestor to “Jersy Giant.”<br />

Jere has been growing these for 20 years and they are a<br />

KORALIK #TM188<br />

65-70 days. Determinate. Just 55 days from transplanting,<br />

this early 1” cherry tomato is bright red and borne on heavy<br />

trusses of 6-8 fruit, which are sweet and flavorful. This<br />

Russian variety is enormously productive for a determinate<br />

type. Great for small gardens. Pkt $2.00<br />

MARGLOBE SUPREME #TM104<br />

Determinate. 73-77 days. Medium-sized, red fruit make<br />

excellent canning tomatoes. Good size and uniform deep<br />

Semi-determinate. 70 days. Popular, old French variety<br />

developed by the Vilmorin Seed Co. Scarlet, lightly ribbed<br />

fruit, have the full rich flavor that is so enjoyed in Europe.<br />

weather. Productive market variety. Imported European<br />

MONEYMAKER #TM116<br />

75-80 days. An old English heirloom; greenhouse variety;<br />

produces 4 to 6-oz globes that are intensely red, smooth,<br />

and of very high quality. This variety grows well in hot,<br />

humid climates and greenhouses; sets in most any<br />

weather. Flavorful and becoming rare. Pkt $1.75<br />

MOSKVICH #TM237 New!<br />

Semi-determinate. 60 days. Smallish, 4-6 ounce fruits;<br />

very uniform, globular and deep red. Produced early and<br />

abundantly, the crack-resistant fruits are of outstandingly<br />

good flavor; used fresh or for canning and cooking.<br />

Performs well in cool to cold conditions, like so many of<br />

NINEVEH TOMATO #TM191<br />

A very acid, almost sour-tasting tomato that is best for<br />

cooking uses. This tomato comes from Mosul (formerly<br />

Nineveh) Iraq, but is now said to be lost to cultivation due<br />

to the long on-going war and promotion of hybrid and<br />

gene-altered seeds. Bush plants set bright red, small to<br />

medium sized fruit. From Aziz Nael, an Iraqi friend that<br />

supplied us with a few seeds. Pkt $2.50<br />

PANTANO ROMANESCO #TM127<br />

70-80 days. A Roman heirloom that was sent to us by Mr.<br />

Barbetti, from Italy. The fruit are large and are deep red,<br />

with almost a purple tint. The flesh is very rich, flavorful,<br />

and juicy. An excellent tomato for home and market<br />

gardeners; very rare and delicious. Pkt $2.50<br />

PEARSON #TM118<br />

Determinate. 80 days. This tomato was one of the most<br />

popular varieties in California in the 1950’s. Excellent yielder<br />

in hot, semi-arid areas; produces large, red, globular fruits<br />

that are very solid and perfect for canning! Pkt $2.00<br />

PLACERO #TM196<br />

A flavorful, small tomato from our friend Herb Culver. He<br />

collected this tomato in Cuba from a man named Orlando<br />

at Mission Mundial. This tomato also is said to have a very<br />

high beta-carotene content. Tasty, red fruit grow on very<br />

PRITCHARD OR SCARLET TOPPER #TM136<br />

75 days. Large-sized, bright red fruit with excellent<br />

flavor, this old variety is now rare. It was introduced<br />

around 1930 by the USDA, who was trying to perfect the<br />

most wilt-, disease-, and rust-resistant tomato possible.<br />

In 1932, Peter Henderson’s catalog said, “For diseaseresistant<br />

qualities, it supersedes all others.” This early<br />

main season tomato is excellent for the homestead;<br />

great fresh or canned. Pkt $2.25<br />

PRINCIPE BORGHESE #TM122<br />

Determinate. 70-75 days. The Italian heirloom that is<br />

famous for sun drying. Small 1-to 2-oz, grape-shaped fruit<br />

are very dry and have few seeds. They have a rich tomato<br />

taste that is wonderful for sauces. Determinate vines yield<br />

clusters of fruit in abundance, perfect for selling in fresh<br />

markets and making specialty products. We offer pure<br />

RED FIG or PEAR-SHAPED #TM106<br />

75 days. Small, 1½” red fruit are pear shaped. This<br />

heirloom dates back to the 1700’s. It was offered by many<br />

seedsmen and was very popular for making “Tomato Figs.”<br />

The fruit is sweet and tasty. Pkt $2.00<br />

RED GRAPE #TM189<br />

69-80 days. This tomato type caught on a few years ago,<br />

and now everyone loves them! This non-hybrid strain<br />

produces lots of these crisp, super-sweet, grape-shaped<br />

tomatoes, glowing red in color. The small size makes this<br />

tomato perfect for snacking and salads. Pkt $2.50<br />

RIESENTRAUBE #TM132<br />

76-85 days. This old German heirloom was offered in<br />

Philadelphia by the mid-1800’s. The sweet, red 1-oz fruit<br />

grow in large clusters; the name means “Giant Bunch of<br />

Grapes” in German. This is likely the most popular small<br />

tomato with seed collectors, as many favor the rich, full<br />

tomato flavor that is missing in today’s cherry types. Large<br />

REISETOMATE #TM198<br />

The most novel tomato we have seen, this tomato is like<br />

a big bunch of cherry tomatoes all fused together: an<br />

amazing trait that had everyone here asking questions<br />

about the alien-looking, bumpy tomatoes. Also called<br />

“Traveler Tomato” (“reise” is German for “travel” or “journey”)<br />

for the ability to tear it apart a piece at a time, with no<br />

need for a knife. This type of tomato traces its roots to<br />

Central America where the native people would carry<br />

traveler tomatoes on trips, to eat as they walked. Bright<br />

red tomatoes taste—well, rather sour, strong and acid. The<br />

perfect tomato for those who love raw lemons, but who<br />

REV. MARROW LONGKEEPER #TM187<br />

Determinate. 78 days. A tall variety with 6-10 oz, globular<br />

fruit that ripens orange-red with pinkish flesh. The<br />

amazing thing about this tomato is its keeping qualities;<br />

these have kept until January! Selected for longest storage<br />

time possible, by the late, Merl Neidens. Plant late for<br />

storage use, and keep cool in storage. These come from<br />

Determinate. 76 days. A quality paste variety, very thick flesh.<br />

ROUGE D’IRAK TOMATO #TM145<br />

75 days. Medium-sized fruit are finely flavored; good yield,<br />

too. This variety is endangered even in its own country<br />

where saving seeds has become more difficult under the<br />

“Colonial Powers” of the United States... Farmers are also<br />

Determinate. 80 days. Very productive Roma type,<br />

vigorous; yields bright-red, pear-shaped fruit that are<br />

uniform and perfect for paste or canning. Very resistant<br />

to disease, perfect for the home garden or market. This<br />

RUTGERS #TM102<br />

Determinate. 60-100 days. Good for canning, also excellent<br />

fresh; large red 8-oz globes. Good yields and flavor, large<br />
