The Northwest Oregon Permit Goose
season protects the dusky Canada goose
population that winters in this region,
while allowing harvest of more numerous
subspecies such as Taverner’s and
western Canada geese . Most goose
hunting is on private lands; therefore,
always ask landowner permission before
entering private lands .
PERMIT ZONE BOUNDARY
All lands west and north of the following
boundary: are open to goose hunting by
permit only: Starting at the Columbia Rvr at
Portland, south on I-5 to Hwy 22 at Salem;
east on Hwy 22 to Cascade Hwy; south
on Cascade Hwy to Stayton and straight
south to the North Santiam Rvr; west
(downstream) on the north shore of the
North Santiam Rvr to I-5; south on I-5 to its
junction with Hwy 126 at Eugene; west on
Hwy 126 to Greenhill Rd; south on Greenhill
Rd to the intersection with Crow Rd; west
on Crow Rd to Territorial Hwy; north on
Territorial Hwy to Hwy 126; west on Hwy
126 to mi post 19; north to the intersection
of the Benton and Lincoln Co line; north on
the western boundary of Benton and Polk
cos to the southern boundary of Tillamook
Co; west on the Tillamook Co boundary
to the Pacific Coast . See Closed Areas

DUSKY GOOSE STATUS UPDATE
Dusky Canada geese have experienced
a long-tem population decline and 2009’s
survey in Alaska was the lowest recorded .
Although this spring’s survey in Alaska
showed improved numbers, the current
population level requires the significant
changes made to dusky goose harvest
management in 2009 continue throughout
the flyway as agreed to in the Pacific
Flyway Council’s Dusky Canada Goose
Management Plan (www .pacificflyway .
gov/Documents/Dcg_plan .pdf) . Changes
included implementation of a quota season
in Alaska and significantly reduced quotas
in Oregon and Washington .
Now more than ever the department is
asking hunters to refrain from purposely
shooting any dusky Canada goose .
Although the permit system allows hunters
to harvest one dusky Canada goose per
season, quotas are designed only for
the accidental harvest of dusky Canada
geese . Your cooperation will ensure dusky
Canada goose quotas are not reached
and that farmers and hunters will continue
to work together to reduce agricultural
depredation caused by wintering geese .
Remember to never shoot at a medium
to large dark-breasted Canada goose .
These are likely dusky Canada geese .
Also, never shoot a goose when in doubt
of identification .

hunting during the permit season:
■ Sauvie Island WA .
■ Fern Ridge WA (including Fern Ridge
Reservoir and all Corps of Engineers
lands in the Fern Ridge Project)
■ E .E . Wilson WA
■ That portion of Tillamook Co beginning
at the point where Old Woods
Rd crosses the south shores of Horn
Creek, north on Old Woods Rd to Sand
Lake Rd at Woods, north on Sand Lake
Rd to the intersection with McPhillips
Dr, due west (~200 yards) from the intersection
to the Pacific coastline, south
on the Pacific coastline to Neskowin
Creek, east along the north shores of
Neskowin Creek and then Hawk Creek
to Salem Ave, east on Salem Ave in
Neskowin to Hawk Ave, east on Hawk
Ave to Hwy 101, north on Hwy 101
to Resort Dr, north on Resort Dr to a
point due west of the south shores of
Horn Creek at its confluence with the
Nestucca River, due east (~80 yards)
across the Nestucca River to the south
shores of Horn Creek, east along the
south shores of Horn Creek, to the
point of beginning .

Goose hunting is prohibited before 8 a .m .
and after 4 p .m .
Open days from Feb . 2 - Mar . 10, 2013:
Goose hunting is prohibited before 7:30
a .m . and after 4 p .m .
BAG LIMITS
Daily Bag Limit: Four dark geese and four
white geese . Within the daily bag limit of
dark geese you may not have more than
three cackling Canada geese or Aleutian
Canada geese combined . In addition, the
season limit for dusky Canada geese is
one .
Possession Limit: Double the daily bag
limit except for dusky Canada geese .
Dusky Canada Goose Season Limit: One
dusky Canada goose is allowed per season .

SEASON QUOTAS
A hunt period dusky quota is set for each
hunt area and the season for each area
will close on the day its period quota is
met . If a period quota is met, the season
will reopen the following period . Unused
quotas will be transferred from one period
to the next, but not between hunt areas .
If a quota is exceeded for one period, the
following period quota for that area will be
reduced accordingly .

DEFINITIONS
Dusky Canada Goose: Any dark-breasted
(Munsell 10 YR color value 5 or less)
Canada goose with a bill length between
40 and 50 millimeters .
Cackling Canada Goose: Any Canada
goose with a bill length less than 32
millimeters .
White geese: Snow and Ross’ geese .
Dark geese: All geese except black brant,
snow and Ross’ geese .
CHECK STATION LOCATIONS
Each hunt area will be served by one
of the following check stations . Failure
to check out at the appropriate check
station(s) will result in the invalidation of a
hunter’s annual goose permit .
■ Benton, Lane, and Linn cos: Hunters
with geese must check out at a
station located at the Fern Ridge WA
headquarters, 26969 Cantrell Rd, Eugene,
or at a location north of the buildings at the
OSU Crew Docks through the gate on the
east side of the boat barn and adjacent to
the golf course, 1/4 mi east of Corvallis, off
Hwy 34 .
■ Polk Co: Hunters with geese must
check out at a station located at Polk
Co Fairgrounds, just south of Rickreall
on Hwy 99W .
■ Marion Co: Hunters with geese must
check out at a station located at the
Antique Powerland Museum, 1/4 mi
west of I-5 Exit 263 (Brooks exit) .
■ Yamhill, Washington and Clackamas
cos: Hunters with geese must check
out at a station located at 450 S . Maple
in Yamhill, or Polk Co fairgrounds just
south of Rickreall on Hwy 99W, or the
Cracker Barrel Store near the Sauvie
Island bridge .
■ Sauvie Island Private Lands: Hunters
with geese must check out at a station
located at the Cracker Barrel store near
the Sauvie Island bridge .
