YOUTH HUNTER ORANGE REQUIREMENT<br />
n Applies to youth hunters<br />
(age 17 under)<br />
n When hunting all game mammals<br />
<strong>and</strong> upl<strong>and</strong> birds (except turkey) with<br />
any firearm<br />
n Hat OR exterior garment (shirt, jacket,<br />
coat, vest, sweater) visible in<br />
all directions<br />
n Hunter orange camouflage acceptable<br />
n Hunter orange NOT required for youth<br />
archery, turkey <strong>and</strong> waterfowl hunting<br />

Rules for hunting dog <strong>and</strong> raptor training<br />
• Trainers can now release <strong>and</strong>/or kill<br />
domestically-raised game birds to train their hunting<br />
dogs <strong>and</strong> raptors year-round. A permit is still required<br />
to release the game birds (free permit available online).<br />
• The prohibition on dog training or dogs running at large<br />
in game bird nesting habitat during the months <strong>of</strong><br />
April – July has been lifted. Harassing wildlife, except<br />
when hunting or during pursuit season, is still unlawful.<br />
(Harass means to chase, molest, worry or disturb wildlife).<br />
• A pursuit season for wild hatched upl<strong>and</strong> game birds from September 1 – January 31 has been<br />
established. (Wild hatched game birds may only be killed during authorized hunting seasons listed<br />
in this booklet.)<br />
• A st<strong>and</strong>ardized permit application to hold a competitive hunting dog trial has been developed.<br />

The rules were developed with an advisory group that included representatives from hunting dog<br />
trainers, game bird propagators, shooting preserve operators, falconers, hunters, bird conservationists,<br />
<strong>Oregon</strong> State Police <strong>and</strong> ODFW.<br />
