Hunter education classes are limited <strong>and</strong> fill quickly;<br />
Register Early! Classes are typically <strong>of</strong>fered<br />
between January - August.<br />
Who Needs to Take Hunter Education?<br />
n Anyone age 17 or under must have pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> hunter education in their possession (certificate or valid license<br />
that includes hunter education number) when hunting on l<strong>and</strong> other than their own property, except youth<br />
participating in the Mentored Youth Program.<br />
n Many states require ALL hunters to have passed hunter education - plan your out-<strong>of</strong>-state hunts accordingly.<br />
Information for Youth:<br />
n Youth may purchase licenses <strong>and</strong> tags prior to taking course, but must carry pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> having passed hunter<br />
education in the field.<br />
n There is no minimum age requirement to take a class; however a child must be able to physically h<strong>and</strong>le a firearm<br />
safely <strong>and</strong> underst<strong>and</strong> the concepts <strong>of</strong> firearm safety <strong>and</strong> other topics covered in class.<br />

ODFW’s Hunter Education Program NEEDS you!<br />
Pass on the hunting tradition to future generations in a safe, fun, <strong>and</strong><br />
responsible manner.<br />
n Firearm <strong>and</strong> hunter safety n <strong>Wildlife</strong> management <strong>and</strong> conservation<br />
n Hunter ethics <strong>and</strong> responsibilities n Outdoor safety<br />
Hunter education instructors are individuals 21 <strong>and</strong> older who have a<br />
passion for hunting. You do not need to be an expert hunter to teach this<br />
course; a strong interest in introducing young people <strong>and</strong> adults to the<br />
sport is what is required.<br />
