WE NEED YOUR WINGS AND TAILS
Grouse and mountain quail wings and tails provide
ODFW biologist important information about the health
of populations. Hunters can help by donating a wing and
tail from harvested grouse and mountain quail.
Hunters participating in this program will be sent wing collection bags and instructions
on how to properly submit wings and tails. If you would like to assist ODFW in this effort,

MOUNTAIN QUAIL LOCATIONS NEEDED
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the U .S . Forest Service
are conducting a survey to determine Mountain Quail locations east of the
Cascade Mountains in Oregon .
Please report any observations of Mountain Quail including the date, specific
location (nearest creek, town, road, etc .), county of observation and number of
quail to your local ODFW office or send to: Dave Budeau, ODFW

As with grouse
and quail wings and
tail fans, important
biological information
can be obtained from band-tailed pigeon
wings. The department works cooperatively
with the USFWS on wing collections from
hunters. We are looking to increase our
sample size for pigeon wings. If you have
not been contacted by the USFWS and
provided wing envelopes and would like to
help, please mail your name and mailing
address to Brandon Reishus, Migratory Game
Bird Program, ODFW, 3406 Cherry Ave. NE,
Salem, OR 97303. Or send an email
to Brandon.s.reishus@state.or.us
Your mailing information will be forwarded to
the USFWS who will send you wing

Water Sources
and
Animal Use
Please be sensitive to the needs of
wildlife and livestock and minimize
activities around water sources
that can have impacts on wildlife
and livestock, especially during hot
and dry weather conditions. For
example, avoid camping at or near
waterholes, springs, guzzlers, and
other sources of water that could
disrupt animal use for extended
periods of time. Remember that in
many cases, livestock are constrained
by fences and do not have the
option of moving to alterative
water sources. Many bird species
are dependent on localized water
sources also.
