Brushing, while evidenced on 24 sherds, was not found on any rim sherds. Brushing<br />

was found on both sand and shell tempered sherds, although it was more common on sand<br />

tempered sherds. Incising was observed in nearly equal amounts on both jars and bowls,<br />

and it was used on both sand and shell tempered vessels. Incising was used in<br />

combination with notched applique strips. Applique strips on jars were placed below the<br />

rim, while on bowls these strips were located on the shoulder, or "carination" of the bowl.<br />

Applique strips were applied to both sand and shell tempered vessels. Round cane<br />

punctations also were used to decorate bowls.<br />

Bottle glass. Ninety-one dark green wine bottle glass fragments were recovered from the<br />

midden, while four features contained dark green glass. No whole bottles were recovered.<br />

Pharmaceutical bottle parts were less common than wine bottle glass. Sixteen<br />

fragments of light green medicinal bottle glass were recovered from the midden, and none<br />

were found in feature contexts.<br />

Table Glassware. Drinking goblet styles changed throughout the eighteenth century, and<br />

certain styles are useful for dating <strong>site</strong>s. Thirteen clear lead glass goblet fragments were<br />

found. One fragment is a style that was produced from about 1720 until the mid-eighteenth<br />
