The entries superior to this check are IET 21759 (HPR 2603) in the low elevation while IET 21765 (UPRI 2008-20), IET 21766 (VL 31348), IET 21768 (VL 31393) and IET 21769 (VL 31401) under medium elevation. All these merit promotion to AVT-1-MH. None of the entries were superior under high elevated hills. All these entries are eligible for promotion to AVT-1-UH. IET 21744 possesses moderate resistance to sheath blight and brown spot; IET 21740 to leaf blast and sheath blight while IET 21741 to sheath blight. AEROBIC TRIALS Aerobic rice is a potential water-saving technology which can reduce water use and increase the water productivity of the rice crop especially in water-scarce irrigated areas. In this system, rice is sown directly into dry soil and irrigation is given to keep the soil sufficiently moist but never flooded for attaining good plant growth and enhanced yields. In view of developing rice varieties suitable for aerobic conditions 68 test entries were evaluated at 43 test locations in Advance Variety Trial-2-Early (Aerobic) AVT-2E (Aerobic), Initial Variety Trial –Early (Aerobic) IVT-E (Aerobic), Advance Variety Trial –2 – Mid Early (Aerobic) AVT-2-ME (Aerobic), Advance Variety Trial- 1 - Mid Early (Aerobic) AVT-1-ME (Aerobic) and Initial Variety Trial – Mid Early (Aerobic) IVT-ME (Aerobic). 1.xxiv
