Assistance to capture fisheries
The bureau renders assistance to the coastal
areas / for capture fishermen in the form of
technical advisory services which include fish
sanctuary establishment, fishing gear design
and construction, and CRM-related capability –
building and livelihood trainings.
For 2011, the Bureau has dramatically increased
the distribution of fishing gears as assistance
to marginal fishermen. Table 2 shows the type,
quantity, and places where the fishing gears were
distributed.

Technology demonstration Projects
As major part of its extension activities, the
bureau conducts technology demonstration
projects at farmers level as means to expedite
the dissemination of new or old-but-still relevant
fishery technologies (Table 3).
The technologies are intended not only to
increase production, but more so, to increase
fish farmers income, lower their production cost
in view of continued rise in the price of inputs,
and at the same time safeguard the environment
and make aquaculture operations a sustainable
venture.
Demo projects are usually established at the
farmers’ level, in order to bring the technology at
the very doorsteps of the end users – the farmers
themselves.
The demo projects are implemented either
with full-support from the agency or under
counterparting scheme with the LGUs. These
demo projects are also means to jumpstart small
fish culture ventures in the countryside, being
dole-out in nature.
