consultation with these people investigate whether cultural activities, including hunting,<br />

may be appropriate in <strong>Dry<strong>and</strong>ra</strong> <strong>and</strong> how these activities may be managed on a sustainable<br />

basis.<br />

11. 1 Maintain <strong>and</strong>, where necessary, upgrade vehicle access according to Maps 4a <strong>and</strong> 4b.<br />

12.1 1 Upgrade Contine Hill recreation site.<br />

13.4 1 Progressively develop a range <strong>of</strong> walks, tracks <strong>and</strong> routes that enable visitors to explore<br />

the <strong>Woodl<strong>and</strong></strong> by foot.<br />

14. 8 Approve only commercial concessions that are reliant on the special environmental<br />

qualities <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Woodl<strong>and</strong></strong>.<br />

15. 1 Issue ten year licences.<br />

2 Produce a strategic plan for the management <strong>of</strong> mallet plantation areas <strong>and</strong> the associated<br />

industries by December, 1995.<br />

3 Continue to prohibit the harvesting <strong>of</strong> W<strong>and</strong>oo <strong>and</strong> Powderbark W<strong>and</strong>oo in <strong>Dry<strong>and</strong>ra</strong><br />

<strong>Woodl<strong>and</strong></strong>. Identify, in conjunction with the local timber industry alternative sources <strong>of</strong><br />

these species, including CALM operations in the Darling Range forest belt.<br />

4 Demonstrate how the establishment <strong>of</strong> commercial plantations <strong>of</strong> suitable trees<br />

(especially local species) can be integrated with surrounding agricultural l<strong>and</strong> uses to<br />

benefit l<strong>and</strong>owners, the timber industry <strong>and</strong> the environment.<br />

18. 2 Continue plant disease surveys <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dry<strong>and</strong>ra</strong> to identify <strong>and</strong> then isolate diseased areas.<br />

19. - Achieve effective fire protection by maintaining fuel reduced buffers, detection <strong>and</strong><br />

suppression systems, <strong>and</strong> regular <strong>and</strong> constructive liaison with farmers, visitors <strong>and</strong> the<br />

general public.<br />

20. 1 Map the incidence <strong>of</strong> weeds, <strong>and</strong> monitor their location, extent, spread <strong>and</strong>, where<br />

possible, ecological effects.<br />

21. 1 Record the incidence <strong>of</strong> feral animals (in particular cats <strong>and</strong> pigs), <strong>and</strong> monitor their<br />

location, extent, spread <strong>and</strong> ecological effects. Instigate control measures, with pigs,<br />

foxes <strong>and</strong> cats receiving high priority.<br />

3 Continue the current fox baiting program, modifying methods in light <strong>of</strong> new<br />

information or specialist advice.<br />
