13.10 FISHING<br />
BACKGROUND<br />
Fishing for Redfin (Perca fluviatillus) <strong>and</strong> Yabbies (Cherax destructor albidus) are popular activities<br />
at both Old Mill Dam <strong>and</strong> Congelin Dam during the warmer months.<br />
There is no size limit on Redfin, although a recreational fishing licence is required <strong>and</strong> a bag limit <strong>of</strong><br />
40 fish per angler per day applies. There are no size or bag limits on Yabbies, <strong>and</strong> a licence is not<br />
required.<br />
ISSUES<br />
10. Fishing for Redfin <strong>and</strong> Yabbies is an established recreational activity in Old Mill Dam <strong>and</strong><br />
Congelin Darn.<br />
OBJECTIVE<br />
4. Provide opportunities for recreational fishing <strong>of</strong> Redfin <strong>and</strong> Yabbies at <strong>Dry<strong>and</strong>ra</strong>.<br />
STRATEGY<br />
1. Allow recreational fishing for Redfin <strong>and</strong> Yabbies at Old Mill Dam <strong>and</strong> Congelin Dam in<br />
accordance with the relevant Fisheries <strong>Department</strong> regulations.<br />
14. TOURISM AND COMMERCIAL VISITOR SERVICES<br />
BACKGROUND<br />
Tourism<br />
<strong>Dry<strong>and</strong>ra</strong> <strong>Woodl<strong>and</strong></strong> is one <strong>of</strong> the central wheatbelt's three tourist attractions. In 1990-1991 there<br />
were approximately 29 000 visitors to <strong>Dry<strong>and</strong>ra</strong> <strong>Woodl<strong>and</strong></strong> (CALM 1991c), <strong>of</strong> which approximately<br />
5000 visitor nights were spent at the Settlement. This compares with estimated annual visitor numbers<br />
<strong>of</strong> 117 000 at Wave Rock (Hibbs et al. 1994), 12 000 at Lake Dumbleyung, <strong>and</strong> 3000 at Boyagin<br />
Rock (CALM 1991c), all <strong>of</strong> which are located in the central wheatbelt.<br />
Although the structure <strong>of</strong> the vegetation lacks the dimensions <strong>of</strong> the typical forest tourist attractions<br />
in the south-west <strong>of</strong> the State, <strong>Dry<strong>and</strong>ra</strong> is still the key bushl<strong>and</strong> resource in the central wheatbelt, <strong>and</strong><br />
