9. consider methods <strong>of</strong> encouraging the development <strong>of</strong> plantations on private property; <strong>and</strong><br />
10. be reviewed concurrently with the Management Plan in 2004.<br />
3. Continue to prohibit the harvesting <strong>of</strong> W<strong>and</strong>oo <strong>and</strong> Powderbark W<strong>and</strong>oo in <strong>Dry<strong>and</strong>ra</strong><br />
<strong>Woodl<strong>and</strong></strong>. Identify, in conjunction with the local timber industry, alternative sources <strong>of</strong> these<br />
species as necessary, including CALM operations in the Darling Range forest belt.<br />
4. Demonstrate how the establishment <strong>of</strong> commercial plantations <strong>of</strong> suitable trees (especially local<br />
species, such as Brown Mallet <strong>and</strong> S<strong>and</strong>alwood) can be integrated with surrounding agricultural<br />
l<strong>and</strong> uses to benefit l<strong>and</strong>owners, the timber industry <strong>and</strong> the environment.<br />
5. Promote within the timber industry the need to harvest simultaneously all timber products (eg.<br />
tool h<strong>and</strong>les, fence posts <strong>and</strong> firewood) from plantation areas to minimise the disturbance<br />
period <strong>of</strong> native fauna.<br />
6. Ensure that timber harvesting operations are conducted in accordance with the CALM Visual<br />
Resource Management guidelines to reduce aesthetic impacts.<br />
7. Continue to follow, in all operations, the hygiene practices outlined in the CALM Dieback<br />
Hygiene Manual.<br />
Research <strong>and</strong> Monitoring<br />
8. Further develop research with the aims <strong>of</strong> increasing the yield <strong>and</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> mallet, <strong>and</strong><br />
determining the properties <strong>and</strong> uses <strong>of</strong> mallet.<br />
9. Continue silvicultural studies <strong>of</strong> s<strong>and</strong>alwood within current plots.<br />
10. Monitor the impact <strong>of</strong> timber production on fauna populations.<br />
11. Monitor the impact on fauna populations <strong>of</strong> returning selected plantations to pre-existing<br />
vegetation.<br />
12. Monitor the use <strong>of</strong> plantation corridors by native fauna.<br />
