SPeeDy unveils
towerlight Vt-1 eco as
Product Innovation Award winner
Speedy has announced
the winner of its inaugural
Product Innovation Award
2010 as Towerlight’s VT-1
Eco lighting tower.
Speedy launched the award earlier this
year as part of its overall sustainability
strategy which includes the industry
leading GO Initiative (GO for Green
Option) – which provides customers
with independently verified energy
efficiency data on certain products.
The judges at Speedy were impressed
by Towerlight’s VT-1 Eco’s energy
efficiency features which include

intelligent light detection sensors
that automatically switch the
lighting set on and off depending on
predetermined brightness levels.
The VT-1 Eco is already in use and a
fleet of the environmentally beneficial
lighting towers was supplied by Speedy
to this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
The lights were placed around the
festival campsites providing proper,
dependable illumination, allowing the
festival revellers to move safely around
the campsites during the night.
Tests conducted by Speedy and
TowerLight have shown that,
based upon the rental of twelve
VT-1 Eco lighting units, savings
of over £4,300 per month can be

created on operator time, fuel and
carbon savings on an average site.
Andy Connor, supply chain director
at Speedy, said: “The VT-1 Eco is an
excellent example of how a product
used every day on sites can be
made to work far more efficiently.
“As the leading equipment rental
services provider we see it as our
responsibility to make a product like
this available to customers as well
as to encourage manufacturers to
develop innovative new designs. This
is what the awards are all about.”
Paul Hay, international sales manager,
at TowerLight said: “We are honored to
receive this prestigious award for the VT-1
Eco, which is part of TowerLight’s ongoing
policy to develop, with our customers,
increasingly more environmental
and innovative products, which offer
contractors such substantial savings.”

departments, such as DEFRA, placing an
increasing emphasis on reducing pollution
on construction sites and civil engineering
projects, we set about developing
the VT-1 Eco with environmental
considerations right at the forefront.
The knock-on effect means that these
benefits will also apply to outside event
managers, whose clients are often eager
to use environmentally sound equipment.”
