Single girl Lizzie Henries looks at love and romance on both sides of the Channel:
this month in London she gets a bit too up close and personal with a TV presenter

my hopes were high for TV Boy. We had a good
backstory, and I’m always a sucker for a good
backstory. We met when he interviewed me for his TV
show. Aft er the interview he invited me for a drink, and
many, many tequilas later, he kissed me. Later still, in a
corner of the bar, his colleague tried to kiss me. Now, most
women in this situation would think: ‘Thank you, Zara, for your
excellent arse-reducing jeans.’ Sadly, I’m not most women, and
through a haze of slammers, I became convinced that TV Boy I and
TV Boy II were involved in some weird bet. Or, worse, some weird
group-sex thing. Lacking both the concentration and the hand-eye
coordination that surely must be required for a threesome, I
grabbed my bag and left . That was two years ago.
Last month I emailed him out of the blue about a work thing –
letting him know I was in London – and he pushed to meet up that
night. Twenty minutes in at the bar he put his hand on my knee, and
twenty minutes aft er that, went in for the kiss. This was going well.
And then he looked deep into my eyes and said, ‘I’m going to tell you
something I’ve never told anyone.’ Please don’t, I thought. ‘Oh?’ I said.

émission. Après, il m’invite à boire un verre et
une fl opée de tequilas plus tard, m’embrasse.
Puis, dans un coin du bar, son collègue tente de
faire pareil. La plupart des femmes penseraient
alors : « Merci Zara pour tes jeans minimiseurs
de popotin. » Mais je ne suis pas la plupart des
femmes et à travers les vapeurs d’alcool je me
demande si TV Boy I et TV Boy II n’ont pas
fait un pari bizarre. Ou pire, prévoient un plan
