Best for: cycling
The tourist office in Dinant (37 Rue Grande)
has cycling itineraries and maps for sale;
one trail, taking in the serene landscape of
the Haute-Meuse region, is signposted
across 111km of winding roads and paths.
The roads follow the tight meanders of
the Meuse and Semois rivers as they
carve through the landscape and the
journey is peaceful and calm, with hillside
forests swallowing up the noise of the
world and the vast river valleys providing
spectacular views.
Heading back towards Dinant, there’s
no shortage of dining options, with inns,
restaurants and cafés. The Auberge de
Bouvignes (aubergedebouvignes.be) is just
a short cycle along the Meuse from town,
serving delicious Belgian and French food
at reasonable prices.

Dinant on the Meuse is
the starting point for
exhilarating bike trips
Best for: history
Starting from the centre of the picturesque
town of Neufchâteau, you can follow
a trail that takes you past the restored
18th-century Klepper windmill before
cutting through a heavily forested area. The
7km walk offers the chance to explore the
area’s historical and archeological heritage,
passing the remains of a 12th-century
castle, Neolithic tools, Celtic tombs and a
military cemetery from the First World War.
Continue your enjoyment of the area with
lunch at Cap au Vert (capauvert.be), run by
a Belgian couple and offering excellent local
fare on a terrace overlooking the lake.
Best for: varied landscapes
Going southeast on the N67 from Eupen
you’ll reach the Ternell Nature Centre, a
forester’s house from 1770 that’s now
a museum. From here you can leave the car
and strike out northeast into the silent and
almost mystical Hürtgenwald forest. You’ll
cross over a river, hop over babbling brooks
and stand amazed at the views of the
moorland stretching to the horizon. The path
is well marked and the walk is suitable for
all abilities, making it popular for guided
educational tours as well as seasoned
ramblers. The traditional tavern near the
nature centre serves seasonal specialities
– just be sure to remember that you’re in
the German-speaking part of Belgium!

Namur, la capitale de la Wallonie, est un bon point de

de sentiers ont été aménagés par les autorités.

Faune et flore Au cœur des Ardennes, la Forêt
d’Anlier, de 7 000 hectares, se distingue par ses hauts
versants nord, pouvant atteindre 517 mètres : l’endroit
par excellence pour rencontrer cerfs, sangliers, blaireaux,
renards et chats sauvages. Descendez la Sûre ou la
Géronne pour apercevoir des loutres et des castors.
Vie végétale Du déversoir de l’Étang de Virelles,
traversez la forêt de Blaimont en direction de
Lompret : votre randonnée sera aromatique. Arrêtezvous
au Centre de la nature Aquascope pour mieux
connaître les plantes de l’endroit.
Cyclisme L’Office du tourisme de Dinant propose des
itinéraires cyclistes ; une piste tout-terrain balisée
sur 111 km, traverse la paisible région de la Haute-
Meuse. Vous êtes au calme, au milieu de forêts
couvrant les collines et de larges vallées encaissées :
simplement spectaculaire.
Archéologie et histoire De Neufchâteau, suivez une
piste de 7 km qui passe à proximité d’un moulin
restauré du 18ème siècle, des ruines d’un château du
12ème siècle, d’outils néolithiques, de tombes celtes et
d’un cimetière de la première guerre.
Paysages variés Du Centre de la nature Ternell,
pénétrez dans la forêt de Hürtgenwald : vous traverserez
une rivière, sauterez au-dessus de ruisseaux
bruissant et admirerez les landes à perte de vue.

Géronne ziet u misschien wel een otter of een bever.
Flora Van aan de overloop van het Meer van Virelles,
richting bos van Blaiment tot in Lompret zorgt de
flora voor een geurrijke ervaring. Ga ook het
natuurcentrum Aquascope binnen voor meer
informatie over het plantenrijk.
Fietsen Bij de toeristische dienst van Dinant vindt u
fietsroutes, bijvoorbeeld door de serene Haute-
Meuse (111 km bewegwijzerde paden). Geniet van de
rust, de beboste heuvels en brede riviervalleien en
van de adembenemende landschappen.
