Submitted by Sharon Calkins
(3/31/13) Have you ever uttered the words “I quit. I’m done?” Welcome to the Emmaus
Road. Jesus was dead and there was nothing left but the sadness and crying. Everything
had gone wrong. Two men were walking on the road to Emmaus discussing what had
happened. Then Jesus came up beside them and they didn’t recognize Him because He
was dead and that was it. When He asked what they were talking about, Cleopis asked if
He was a clueless visitor. (Paraphrased) We had a great Friend who performed miracles
and we thought He was the answer to our problems and the One who was going to redeem
Israel. Then He was killed and buried. Then an amazing thing happened. Some women
went to the tomb to find the tomb empty and Jesus was gone. They said they talked with
angels. Everything has gone from bad to worse and I am going home. They invited Jesus
to spend the night and when He broke the bread and gave thanks; their eyes were opened
and recognized Him. He then disappeared from them. We are all on our Emmaus Road,
family break ups, financial problems, health issues. He wants to warm our hearts and
change our lives. Jesus didn’t chastise them but encouraged them. The choice is ours
of how we want to live. We need to let Him take ahold of our hands and hearts. How we
live can be tied to Jesus. Our services are in the Baptist Church at 9:30. We welcome
and invite you to worship with us Sunday morning.

ADDISON POST Saturday, APRIL 6, 2013 Page 3
Dr. James Meinsen, D.C.
Chiropractor, Exercise Physiologist
Phone: 607-359-BACK (2225)
#13. THE TAIL DOES NOT WAG THE DOG
BY: DR. MEINSEN
APPLIED PHYSIOLOGIST
CHIROPRACTOR
Since 93% of the population does not use chiropractic,
then it naturally follows that this overwhelming lack of the
publics’ embrace, for a duration of over a century now,
shows that chiropractic simply never had the consent of
the people.
The great George Washington, James Madison,
Thomas Jefferson, Hamilton, John Jay, and all the
Founders of this country, believed in the overall intelligence
of the majority. They believed the wisdom of the people
would overcome failings of the lesser. Now proven, a
democracy was born and it continues! The signifi cance of
an overwhelming measure like 93% should no longer be
dismissed by the chiropractic profession! Not in America;
I presume it’s probably an accurate measure.
The duration of this demonstrative majority directly
implicates chiropractic ignorance as the cause of
its unpopularity; specifically, the unsteady theory of
vertebral subluxation and, the present day repetious
clinical application of it, are most likely the questionable
components.
I say, the scientifi c components of a spinal sprain/strain
are the real isses to be investigated. This is an upgraded
and more reasonable diagnostic construct.
But, thinking in a vacuum, the chiropractic profession
has stubbornly claimed biased persecution throughout
its history. Today, there are no conspiratorial exclusions
by the AMA..., nor by the insurance industry. Clearly, the
chiropractic profession “OWNS” this 7% problem. People
do have an option to utilize chiropractic. They just don’t
The problem is Chiropractors are taught faulty science
about the signifi cance and methods of treatment for
a subluxation..., if this statement is untrue, then why
hasn’t chiropractic shown that treatment progress can be
consistently measured, can be repeatable independent of
the practitioner and, that it is reliably effective for specifi c
health problems? It can’t. It’s not.
This moment won’t happen as long as the primary
premise of chiropractic is its’ insistence that the “vertebral
subluxation theory” stands separately and alone as a
healing modality. Today, it is Neanderthal to think this. It
is comparable to thinking the “tail wags the dog”. Do you
focus on the tail to eliminate disease from the dog? No.
“Subluxations” and tails both exist; but, they are
subordinate entities. A subluxation cannot be separated
from a casual, vertebral sprain/strain. No more than a tail
can be thought separate from the dog..., and to then have
the tail become the focus of treatment to the cure the dog.
Addison’s Businesses, Institutions,
and Buildings
Auto, Gas Stations, and Garage
Industry in Addison
45 Main Street
Part III: 1907-1940 Doddato
From 1907 to after World War I, the property
appears to be vacant or having only minor buildings.
Then after World War I, capitalizing on
the newly emerging automobile craze, and the
autos need for fuel; a company called the Metro
Oil Company bought, and built a “refueling” station
c. 1921-1923 at 45 Main Street. It was one
of 40 built by that company in Steuben County.
About the same time as this, Addison businessman,
and American House owner Angelo
Sisto and his wife Irene returned from a trip
to Italy (1923). On his return, and realizing
the economic potential of “fueling” stations,
Angelo bought four gas and oil stations in Addison.
These included the large, one-roomed
brick building constructed by Metro probably c.
1918-1923 at 45 Main Street(1923); the John J.
Pepper Gas Station on Jones Square(between
the Eagle Hotel and the first Baptist Church)
(February, 1926); the Chatfield Sales Room
and Garage on Tuscarora Street(June, 1926);
and along with Burr Noble, bought out all of
the filing stations of the Metro Oil Company in
Steuben County including the one at 121 Front
Street. Sisto operated all of these successfully
until 1930 when he sold all of his interests
in the gas station operations to the Shell Oil
Company. The station at 45 Main Street went
from a Metro to a Shell station. Shell Oil, as
a matter of restructuring and divesting itself
of individual stations, closed the old Metro
station at 121 Front Street; and leased/with
option to buy the 45 Main Street station in
September to Frederick Doddato. It became
Doddato’s Service Station. Dominic Doddado,
the owner-operator for 40 years of the station,
retired on December 31, 1971. In an Addison
Post article (1/4/1972), he noted and explained
the discrepancy. His explanation was
that his brother, Frederick, who was attending
the University of Alabama, and Dominic, who
had just graduated from Addison High School,
Class of 1931, was supposed to operate the
station until Fred returned. He never did; and
“Dom” kept on in the business. He left the
business briefly to serve in the U. S Army’s
501st. Military Police Battalion, from 1943 to
February of 1946 when he was discharged.
During June of 1940, the old brick station was
replace with a new building. It was built of
concrete with masonry load bearing walls. It
was built by the Davis Construction Company
with electrical work being done by Barkalow
Electric of Addison, New York. This location
was in the center of the business district at the
time(1940); and was surrounded by nineteenth
century commerical buildings. To the east were
residential buildings and across Colwell Street,
Addison High School. The building was basically
without any architectural or historical
importance except that it was built on the site
of burned-out Greek revival Blakslee house.
The building did show very slight influences
of an Art Deco style.
Dear Editor
On Wednesday, March 27th I picked up the
Addison Alumni & Class of 1960 scholarship
applications from the guidance office. Needless
to say I was terribly disappointed in how
few applications there were (8 total). Being old
school, I simply can’t fathom the lack of interest
of the Class of 2013 for free money.
I was informed the main reason being, parents
don’t like the idea of providing a copy of their
tax return, that’s their prerogative. The scholarship
committee’s prerogative is either provide
the required information or to be automatically
rejected. For the past 13 years the committee
has had the same policy in place. Whose fault
is it; the parents or the students?
Dear Editor
Well, we didn’t get must
justice, but the message
is out there that
we aren’t going to put
up with “dirty politics” in
our town.
If you have any doubt
as to whether the antics
pulled were wrong you
should read the 15 page
report by the Chemung
County D.A. You can
do so by going to the
WENY-TV website. Go
to the Rathbone Election portion and in the lower
left corner is a box-click on it and it’s the report.
Thank you, WENY-TV, for doing a thorough job
and presenting all the information for the people
by posting the report -- you were the only ones.
EVERYONE needs to read this report, there
are things that will open eyes to what took place,
things that the media didn’t bring out in any of
their reports.
My initial intent was to inform everyone about
the parts in the report that were over looked. No
one seems to have given the full extent of the fact
that the D.A. could have charged the voters that
were connned in this ordeal. Fact is, in the report
it states he could have charged them (p.11 & 12
) but chose not to because he felt that they were
victims of dirty politics.
The D.A. used more politically correct wording,
but several times in the report refers to it as basically
dirty politics. The charge holds a sentence of
up to 12 months in jail ( I checked it out).
With that said, two articles have come to my
attention that I felt needed addressing because I
was appailed when I read them.
The fi rst was a statement in the newspapers by
Mr. Farrand. (I’m not picking on him , it’s that he
made the statement) The statement was all they
did was an “aggressive” campaign. Really? Voters
almost getting charged with a crime, because of
the involved candidates’ antics, is a little more an
than “aggressive” campaigning.
Then there’s the second article. At fi rst I thought
was a joke, but it wasn’t. Mr. Winner (lawyer and
long time associate of Mr. Farrand) stated that
the investigation was a waste of resources and
that Mr. Farrand was a victim. I was stunned to
say the least.
Whenever dirty politics is stopped so that campaigns
can be honest and fair is never a waste of
resources. Mr. Farrand directed these people into
doing clearly questionable acts. As stated on p. 7
they were only following Mr. Farrand’s direction.
How is he a victim??
On p. 10 & 11 of the report it clearly shows that
Mrs. Olin from the B.O.E. warned Mr. Farrand about
the nature of the absentee ballots. So knowing that
it had to be one of the 6 reasons on the absentee
ballot in order to be legal he proceeded with the
campaign, putting several voters in the position
where they could have been charged with a crime
if it had not been for the compassion of the D.A..(
All that information is in the report).
Again I’m not just picking on Mr. Farrand -- it’s just
that he is the only one that Mr. Winner pointed out
as a victim. The VOTERS are the only victims in
this. In my opinion it’s arrogant and reprehensible
to suggest otherwise. The only thing that Mr. Farrand
is a victim of is getting caught and I have to
say he wasn’t alone.
With all this said I am going to give some credit
to Mr. Kirk and Mr. Newell they cooperated with the
investigators and according to the report were the
only ones to do so with out council (p.5).
Also I would like to thank Mr. Newell again, he,
so far, is the only one who has shown remorse
and has apologized to many people. He truly feels
bad about the events that happened. At least one
man is big enough to take responsibility and make
amends. For that he deserves respect.
People complain that voting should be made
easier but as long as we have these kinds of things
going on it makes it hard to do so. The rules are
already being abused and to pushed to their limits.
How can they even begin to try to make it easier.
The Corp now has 2 new members, Ann Smith and Tonya Dibble. We have mandatory CPR on April 14, 2013 also OSHA training for those who did not get it last
month. Remember, if you miss mandatory training for whatever reason you need to make it up ASAP. March has been a very busy month so far, we have had 20
runs, traveled 1119 miles andused 99.2 gals of fuel. Everything on the ambulance that needed to fi xed has been done, all lights are fi xed and working, wiper blades
have been replaced, oil change with fi lter has been completed.
Again, we have to stress the need for EMTS; if you are a caring compassionate person we need you. If you are an EMT or better or willing to become a NYS certifi
We would like to take this time to thank Chris Reese for her past role as President and we wish her the very best.We hope you will continue to come to meetings
and training sessions.
Those of you who continue to be inactive, remember, hyou have until out May meeting to reach your Active status. At our meeting it was decided that we needed to
wear uniforms and to look and act professional. “We’re there because we care” and by putting our Tuscarora Ambulance on the back, cleaning up and presenting
ourselves in a professional manner when we answer calls, will let people know we care and that we have a Corp to be proud of. So in the very near future watch
for our new look. It was also stated at our meeting that these uniforms were to be worn on our runs, kept clean, and wrinkle free, and some of our members were
to “clean up their act when it comes to language while on runs, in public eye, and representing the Corp., no fi ghting, bickering, or arguing is to be done outside
the hall, if on a run take your problems back to the hall to settle it with the Captain or BOD.
AGAIN, remember our fundraisers and watch for further updates. We have some exciting announcements in the very near future. Please, if you are an EMT and
would like to join our Corp. or anyone else who would like to join see me we’d like to have you; it looks like things are fi nally coming together and we are turning
things around.

Praying Is Good For The Soul
Praying is good for the soul and therapeutic for our personal well-being. Developing a prayer
life helps give us the grace to accept things in this life as they are, and the hope of God’s mercy
toward us in the next. Each day we should thank our Lord for all the days of life He has given
us. We should realize that, a part from God, everything else is of little value. If all the sufferings
and joys of our past draw us closer to our Father in Heaven, they were of immeasurable value.
Praying for the needs of others as well as praying for our own personal desires is important in
our prayer life. Intercessory prayer for our loved ones and friends is not only favored by God, it
also helps to make us mindful of the needs of others. We have a wonderful God and although we
are not always able to understand His decisions and methods, we know He loves us and wants
only the best for us.
