Bilby-Aumick Engagement 

Twila Bilby of Addison is pleased to announce the 

engagement of her daughter, Sybil Katherine Bilby, 

a 2010 graduate of Corning Community College, 

to Chad William Aumick, also a 2010 graduate of 

Corning Community College. 

Both attended Addison Central School, where they 

originally met. Chad currently works as a fi nishing 

operator for Corning Incorporated. Sybil is employed 

by Wegmans. 

A September 28th wedding is planned by the couple.

7:30 p.m. Where: Jennie Mose Family Resource Center 

Who: Young parents. 

Christmas A Time To Give 

Mark your calendar for an open house Saturday, 

December 15th, then bring your children to Higher 

Ground Christian Church at 108 Front Street, Addison. 

Children may stop in any time between 1:00 

p.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

There the youth will decorate their own sugar 

cookie, paint their own ornament, and get a surprise 

gift for Christmas as they exit the church. Parents 

or a guardian must accompany and assist the 

children they bring; please do not just drop your 

children off. There will be a snack table for adults 

where coffee, snacks, and other beverages will be 

served as you wait for your children. 

In a world where people are getting offended 

when we say “Merry Christmas” and not “Happy 

Holiday”, let’s show our children that “Jesus is the 

reason for the season”. Bring them to the church 

and give them a day filled with creativity, and a 

blessed Christmas memory.

MHS Holiday of Lights Tree 

Lighting Ceremony 

The Middletown Historical Society will hold its 

annual Holiday of Lights – Tree Lighting Ceremony 

on Saturday, December 8, 2012. The celebration 

will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Middletown Museum, 

41 Main Street, Addison, NY. 

The names of all the individuals for whom lights 

were purchased in memory of or in honor of will 

be read at the event. Entertainment and refreshments 

will be provided. Please plan to attend this 

very special holiday event. 

Oopsie Daisy Floral & Gift Reopening 

Have you heard the rumors??? Yep… It’s true; Oopsie Daisy Floral & Gift is re-opening its doors here in 

Addison. Deanna has re-located to 43 Main Street. A smaller location where she will concentrate on fl owers, 

plants some balloons and gifts. And yes young and old, the candy counters are also coming back. Currently 

she can be found from 3 – 6:30 M – W & F, and from 4:30 -6:30 Thurs. , Sat 9 -5 and Sundays 10 -4 up until 

Christmas while she fi nishes up her commitment with her current employer and after the New Year she will 

be open full time for all your fl oral needs. Hours will also be posted on her door.

Addison American Legion Accepting Donations For Veterans at Bath VA 

The Addison American Legion Post 730 is now accepting donated items for the Veterans at the Bath VA. Drop off 

your donations at the Addison American Legion Social Room on 85 maple Street, Addison Tuesday - Saturday 3 

p.m. - 9 p.m. The items we receive will be delivered before Christmas. 

We cannot accept used clothing. 

Listed below are acceptable items: Deodorant, Toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs/Brushes, Pen/Pencils, Paper, 

Envelopes, Stamps, Powder, Bread Mixes, 30 cup coffee maker, fast food gift cards ($5 or $10 only), Body Wash,

Woodhull Community Christmas Party 

The 12th annual Woodhull Community Christmas party for the residents of the town of Woodhull will be held 

Sunday, December 9 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be Christmas music by Bob Melnyk, the Barbershoppers, 

the Woodhull Church Choir and the new Woodhull Community Band. There will be food and gifts for 

everyone and Santa Claus will be there to visit with the children. 

If anyone has any gifts they would like to donate for this event, please bring them to the Woodhull Town Hall 

gym when you come to the party. There will also be craft activities for the children. 

Cameron Kids Christmas Party 

The Cameron Community Committee will be sponsoring 

a Christmas party. It will be held at the Cameron Fire 

Hall on December 15th, 2012, from 10:30 - 12:00. Come 

and visit with Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus. Snacks, crafts, and 

coloring contest. 

Pancake Breakfast 

The Addison Volunteer Fire Department will 

be having their monthly Pancake Breakfast on 

Sunday, December 9th from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. 

Defensive Driving Class 

The National Safety Council’s six hour Defensive Driving Course for insurance and point reduction will be 

held December 10th and 12th from 6:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Gang Mills Fire Hall. There is limited seating 

so pre-registration is required. Classes are held every month at the fi re hall, fee $35.00. For more information

J-T Community Food Pantry 

The J-T Community Food Pantry is open every 3rd Wednesday of the month from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Saturday at the Avoca Wrestling Tournament. They beat the following

December 12, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the high school auditorium. Please note – 

The district calendar has our concert listed as being on the 12 th and the 17 th. The 

concert is indeed on the 12 th , and the 17 th was a misprint. The Beginning Band, 5 th 

Grade Band, 6 th Grade Band, and Jazz Band will perform for a night of holiday celebration! 

All band members should report to the stage at the high school at 6:30 PM to warm 

up and tune their instruments before the concert. Please remember to bring your 

instrument and your music home with you on Monday! Don’t forget that attendance 

and performance at the concert is mandatory!*

Spaghetti Dinner Benefit for 

Trinity Cornish 

A benefit Spaghetti Dinner will be held on December 

15, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. - ? at the Troupsburg 

Fire Hall, 983 State Rte. 36, Troupsburg, NY 

for Trinity Cornish. Dinner will include spaghetti, 

salad, dessert and drink. Kids 4 and under free; 

5-11 $4.00; 12 and over $6.00. Take-outs will be 

available. 

Trinity is the daughter of Billy and Cassy Cornish. 

She is a 6 year old student at Jasper-Troupsburg 

Central School. In October 2012 she had to have 

neck surgery and has been back and forth to the 

hospital in Syracuse. The time away from work 

and expenses have added up and all proceeds 

will to towards medical and travel expenses. 

In addition to dinner there will be a Chinese 

auction, 50/50, lottery board, bake sale and a 

cake walk. Drawings at 6:00 p.m. No need to be 

present to win. Pictures with Santa will also be 

taken from 1-3 for a $5.00 donation.

Winners of the Raffl e Baskets 

The Middletown Historical Society is very appreciative of the support of all 

who came to the Historic Church Tour. The winners of the two raffl e baskets 

were: Jobie Ames who won the Wine Basket donated by Fran’s Landing 

and the Christmas Basket was won by Marie Painter. The society members 

worked hard to provide a nice program and all appreciated the music that Bret 

Scrafford and Dennis James provided. The Historical Society appreciates the 

congregations of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, The Presbyterian Church, 

The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, The First Methodist Church and 

the First Baptist Church; they opened their churches, decorated and brought 

beautiful quilts to display. Everything was lovely and well done. 

The Calendars are In! 

The Middletown Historical Society has their new 2013 appointment calendars 

in stock at the museum. They have many pictures of the Addison area in the 

past including a diary entry from a soldier in WWII. These calendars are $12 

and make wonderful gifts. The museum is open on Wednesdays, Fridays and 

Sunday afternoons from 1-4.

Woodhull Community Band Debut Performance 

The Woodhull Community Band will make its debut performance on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at 

2:30pm at the Woodhull Community Christmas party. The band is comprised of 30 musicians ranging

year and for many of the band members, it had been several years since they last played their instruments.

Tis the season for giving! What better way to share the season than with those 

less fortunate. Each year our local pantries gear up to provide those in need with 

traditional holiday foods: turkey, ham, dressing, gravy and side dishes to fi ll their 

homes with all the aromas and delights that the rest of us, at times, take for granted. 

For the Pantry of Angels in Lindley, we serve more than ninety (90) households 

from the towns of Caton and Lindley. Children account for 33% of those served 

and 14%are senior citizens. As with all local pantries, we rely on donations to 

assist us in fulfi lling our mission of feeding the hungry. We can’t send out mailing 

labels, tote bags or other gifts as tokens of thanks but, we can send out our 

sincere gratitude for your help.

Dear Editor: 

I’m writing to publicly express my support for the passage 

of the upcoming Addison Central School Capital Project 

vote. Being a member of the Facilities Planning Committee, 

an educator in the district for 33 years, a parent, a 

grandparent as well as a resident allows me to have a 

great deal of confi dence and insight that all of the needs 

expressed within the scope of the project are needed, 

prudent and timely. 

Of particular importance to me is the resolution of the issue 

of safety in the current traffi c patterns at the Tuscarora 

Elementary School before and after school. Also imperative 

is the completion of the middle school facility. 

An important aspect of this capital project is that it will 

provide for the repair, 

replacement and maintenance of current inadequate, ineffective 

and unsafe infrastructure in all three of our school 

buildings. Most important is, that by incorporating these 

needs within a Capital Project, no local monies (above 

those which the current Board of Education/Administration 

has previously secured) will be needed. If not accomplished 

through a capital project, funding for these needs would 

need to be raised locally. 

Presenting a capital project such as this requires a great 

deal of time, energy and expertise. We are fortunate 

that the current generation of Administration and Board 

of Education has the above as well as the foresight and 

dedication to see that the needs of our students are met 

and maintained. 

If you have not had the opportunity to attend one of the 

informational meetings or read the circular placed in the 

Addison Post this past week, I invite you to visit the school’s 

website (www.addisoncsd.org) where there is complete 

information on the Capital Project. 

Click on the tab at the top of the home page headed: 

‘Building Project’. 

I would be more than happy to discuss the content of this 

proposal personally with any of our voting public.

Board Meeting 

This is a summary of 

the November 8, 2012 

board meeting of the 

Addison Town Board. 

Department Head Reports: 

Assessor Lyons 

stated Assessor 

Weale has signed up for 

schooling. All exemption 

forms must be back to 

the assessors no later 

than March 1, 2013. 

Superintendent Parrillo 

stated that the new 

truck has arrived and 

old one sold to Town of 

Hartsville. Dog Control 

Officer has issued 8 

more tickets for unlicensed 

dogs and dogs 

running at large. 

Committee Reports: Joe Trappler stated that he 

would like to purchase two carriage lights for front 

of building. 

Old Business: One bid was received for new 48” 

cut brush mower and installation onto a 1996 CAT 

M315 Excavator from Milton CAT in the amount of 

$22,232.98. Tabled until the December meeting 

to find more out about the warranty. 2013-2015 

union contract along with health & hospital contract 

received and roll call taken. Hallett –yes; Gerber – 

yes; Trappler – yes; Crane – yes & Cunningham 

– yes. Ambulance contract was received late and 

will be discussed at our December meeting. Motion 

made and passed that all schooling for town officials 

will be pre approved prior to submitting reservations. 

New Business: Letter of resignation received from 

Assessor Haight with much thanks and regret as of 

October 18th. Two people sent letter of interest for 

the B.A.R. member which will be vacant December 

31st. Motion was made and roll call taken on adopting 

the 2013 preliminary town budget for 2013 with 

changes. Hallett –yes; Gerber –yes; Trappler – yes; 

Crane – yes & Cunningham – yes. $395,023.30 to 

be raised by taxes with a 0.750% increase of taxes. 

Tom Hallett volunteered to be on the Greater Addison 

Health Service Committee. Budget transfers 

were done for DB5110.11 $2,130.22 and DA5142.10 

$5,000.00. 

Reports: Supervisor, Town Clerk and Justice 

monthly report for November received. Approval to 

pay the bills as usual in the amount of $124,831.69.

Th e Woodhull Winterfest committee would like to take this 

opportunity to thank all those who made our fi rst Woodhull 

Winterfest such a great success. First we would like to thank 

the Woodhull Town Board for making this possible with the 

purchase of our new decorations, plus other unseen expenses 

that went along with this Project. We thank the Woodhull 

Highway Department for taking the time out of their busy 

schedule and installing them. A special thanks to the Woodhull 

Volunteers Fire Department for the use of their building. 

We thank the Community Church and Youth Group for the 

caroling and living nativity. All the residents who plug the 

pole lights into their own homes for the evening. We would 

like to thank Towner Tree Farms for the donation of the 

Community Christmas tree. Henry Harris for providing the 

carriage rides. All the food and craft vendors who participated. 

A special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Santa who in turn 

made a generous donation to “Camp Good Days and Special 

Times”. Plus, we thank all the residents in our wonderful 

town for being there and supporting this event. Mark your

Mary Jane Taft 

Mary Jane Taft, 80, of County Route 103, Woodhull, 

passed away on Monday evening, December 3, 

2012 at Highland Hospital in Rochester following an 

extended illness. 

Born in Prattsburg, NY on July 4, 1932, Mary Jane 

was the only child of the late Lawrence and Ruth Cady 

Parker. She was a graduate of Jasper Central School 

and the Hornell Business Institute. 

On July 17, 1953, Mary Jane and James F. Taft were 

married in Jasper. Jim survives. They celebrated 59 

years of marriage this year. 

Mary Jane was employed as the fi rst secretary of the 

Principle at Jasper Central School. She was always 

very involved in civic activities, having been the district 

clerk for the former Woodhull Union Free School, past 

treasurer and a member of the First Baptist Church 

of Woodhull, served as treasurer of the Woodhull 

Fire District and served as an election inspector for 

many years. She and Jim were very involved with the 

creation and planning on the Woodhull Community 

Day Committee where Mary Jane was a long time 

treasurer. She was a former member and past Matron 

of OES Chapter 273 in Woodhull. 

She was a very talented seamstress and made clothing 

for her family over the years, as well as enjoying 

craft projects. Mary Jane’s contributions as a partner 

with Jim on the family dairy farm were integral to the 

success of their farm. 

Preceding Mary Jane in death were her infant daughter, 

Cinda Louise Taft in 1969 daughter, Rhonda Askins 

on Dec. 7, 2005 and her son in law, Loren Dennis. 

Surviving are her husband, James Taft at home, her 

daughters, Linda Dennis of Woodhull and Brenda and 

husband, Denis Trainor of Amenia, NY, her son in law, 

James Askins of Jacksonville, NC, her grandchildren, 

Heather Dennis, Kristy (Scott) Flint, Michael (Jennifer) 

Dennis, Sherry (Raymond) Cary, Curtis Dennis, Kyle 

Askins, Ryan Askins, Mitchell Trainor and Colleen 

Trainor, as well as several cousins. 

Friends may call on Friday, Dec. 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 

PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 

Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be conducted 

there on Saturday at 11 AM with Rev. Adrian

2012, at 9:00 A.M., Prevailing Time, for the purpose of voting by voting machine upon the proposition hereinafter set forth. Polls 

for the purpose of voting will be kept open between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 9:00 P.M. Prevailing Time. The proposition to be

Shall the following resolution be adopted, to-wit: 

RESOLVED that the Board of Education of Addison Central School District, Steuben County, New York, is hereby authorized (a)

machinery, apparatus, site improvements, athletic fi eld improvements, and other improvements and costs incidental thereto, at a 

maximum estimated cost of $22,985,000; and that $19,159,894 of such sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary after the 

application of other State aid as applicable, shall be raised by the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments as provided by 

Section 416 of the Education Law; and, in anticipation of such tax, obligations of said School District shall be issued, and further (b) 

to appropriate and expend $3,825,106 from the Capital Reserve Fund of said School District to pay a portion of the cost thereof. 

NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN that the aforesaid proposition may appear on the ballot labels of the voting machines 

used at such Special District Meeting in the following abbreviated form due to space constraints:

Fred R. Allen 

Fred R. Allen, 94, formerly of Painted Post and Austinburg, Pa., died Sunday, 

December 3, 2012 at Founders Pavilion, Corning. 

Born in Wellsboro, Pa. September 17, 1918, he was the son of Burt and Lela 

Rouse Allen. 

A graduate of Addison High School, he was a US Army veteran of World War II 

and a Pearl Harbor survivor. 

He was a retired machinist from Ingersoll Rand Company, Painted Post and was 

formerly the sexton of Woodlawn Cemetery at Austinburg, Pa. 

He married Nina L. Calkins on June 22, 1946. She preceded him in death on 

May 10,1996. 

He is survived by his daughter, Lucille Aspelund of Corning, his son, Richard 

Allen of the Philippines, his sister in law, Carol Allen of Corning, two grandchildren 

and several great grandchildren. 

He is also preceded in death by his son, Stanley Allen, his brothers, Phillip and 

Arthur Allen and sister, Gertrude Root. 

Friends called on Thursday, December 6 from 1 PM to 2 PM at the H.P. Smith 

& Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY where funeral services 

were conducted immediately following visitation at 2 PM. The Rev. Brian Diffenbacher 

offi ciated. 

Burial was in Elk Creek Cemetery, Borden.

Forgiveness 

Do not judge others, and God will not judge you; do not condemn others, and God will not condemn you; forgive others, and God will 

forgive you (Luke 6:37). There are many verses in the Bible like this one that tell us that we should forgive those who have offended 

or insulted us in one way or another. Often, relationships between families and friends have been destroyed because of the hardening 

of the heart and the refusal to forgive others for something that they may have said or done. Because we are close to our loved ones, 

we may feel that we can say things to them that we would never say to others. Although the spirit of forgiveness is not always easy, 

forgiveness is usually more important to those who have been offended than to those who have caused the offense. Quite often, a 

person may not even realize that they have said or done something that disturbs us, and frequently a person’s words or actions may 

simply be misinterpreted. Forgiving others as God forgives us is necessary in order to live our lives as our Heavenly Father requires. 

Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any Man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
