When the flag is too worn to display a dignified, respectful Flag Retirement Ceremony is in order. The Jas-<br />
per- Troupsburg Boy Scout Troop 46 will perform this service on July 4 th at 9:00 p.m. on the baseball diamond<br />
at the <strong>Jasper</strong>-Troupsburg Sports Complex in <strong>Jasper</strong>. Fireworks will follow at 9:30 p.m. and finish the <strong>Old</strong> <strong>Home</strong><br />
Day celebration with a flourish.<br />
The Boy Scouts encourage residents to drop off their no longer usable flags at the <strong>Jasper</strong> Town Hall, Bullock’s<br />
Hardware or the Manley Agency by July 3.<br />

The United Church of <strong>Jasper</strong><br />
The United Church of <strong>Jasper</strong> is a community church serving Christ in<br />
today’s world with United Methodist and Presbyterian Church roots, where<br />
all are WELCOME with open hearts, minds and arms.<br />
Serious deliberations to federate the Methodist and Presbyterian churches<br />
of <strong>Jasper</strong> were earnestly started in 1960. In June of 1962, the two congregations<br />
held their first service together in the Methodist Church with Rev.<br />
Kenneth Snyder as the first minister of the combined churches. A decision<br />
by the newly formed council decided to name the federation “The United<br />
Church of <strong>Jasper</strong>”. Some years later the Methodist Church Building was<br />
torn down. The beautiful stained glass windows from the Methodist Church<br />
now adorn the sanctuary of the West <strong>Jasper</strong> Wesleyan Church. The land<br />
where the church was situated is now the site of the <strong>Jasper</strong> Fire Company.<br />
Presently, Rev. David Barnard is in his 12 th year of ministry at the<br />
United Church of <strong>Jasper</strong>. Sunday School classes for youth and adults are<br />
available at 10:00 AM and Sunday Morning Worship at 11:00 AM. Summer<br />
Bible School for children and adults will be held in mid July for four<br />
evenings. Watch for further plans and times as the summer advances. Our<br />
doors are open to YOU!<br />

The <strong>Jasper</strong> Fire Department<br />
came into being in 1927, under<br />
the leadership of Ed Bouck, Arthur<br />
Whiting and Forrest Loper,<br />
after a child was lost in a house<br />
fire. <strong>Jasper</strong> Volunteer Fire and<br />
Ambulance Department serves<br />
the Town of <strong>Jasper</strong> with a population<br />
of 1327 covering 52.7 square<br />
miles. We also provide mutual<br />
aid to surrounding communities<br />
of Troupsburg, Canisteo, Greenwood,<br />
Woodhull and Cameron<br />
with a combined population of<br />
6809 citizens. Our current firefighters<br />
and EMT’s spend many<br />
volunteer hours updating their<br />
training to provide the community<br />
with the best fire and emergency<br />
services possible.<br />
Since 9/11/2001 all fire departments<br />
are to be equipped to handle<br />
any major emergency. Discussion<br />
is underway to expand<br />
or relocate our firehouse to keep<br />
within these guidelines. Our current<br />
building was built circa 1962<br />
before these guidelines were in effect.<br />
Coupled with the changes in<br />
size of newer apparatus we have<br />
outgrown our current building.<br />
Committees are at work to bring<br />
about changes.<br />

The <strong>Jasper</strong> Memorial Park was the Eagle Scout project of Bryan Lewis in 2001! The Memorial Wall<br />
was built as a way for families to memorialize their loved ones as part of the history of <strong>Jasper</strong>.<br />
