We need for people to continue attending the
banquet and donating to the scholarship fund
to keep our Alumni Association going. We are
fortunate to have this opportunity to reconnect
each year. Many other schools do not have an
association that hosts an annual banquet. If you
have ever attended a banquet...please share with
friends and family and encourage them to attend!
Please watch the Addison Post for further news
about the 2013 banquet.
In closing, the officers (Terry Llewellyn Class
of ‘60 and Sonya Llewellyn English Class of ‘81)
from the past 12 years appreciates all the support
of alumni over the years and encourages all other
alumni to return for banquets. It is an enjoyable
evening to gather and share experiences that
started from a common beginning.

ADDISON POST Saturday, JULY 7, 2012 Page 4
Notice To All
I am bringing to attention to the people of Addison and the surrounding area of
Steuben Co. and wherever else, or any one individual who in the past has been
hurt or abused in any shape or form by my misconduct with spoken words or
inappropriate actions of abuse that anyone can add to the list. I want to say I am
deeply sorry to everyone that has been affected by these actions, in my neighborhood
and town. I apologize, I am truly sorry! What else can I do I can offer
restitution to anyone who wants to receive it from me. If you have a requirement
individually or cooperatively of me let me know I will see if I can meet it. Other
than that, I have an offer I want to make to you.
On July 8, 2012, Sunday all day. I will have a camp meeting at our home on 7136
Hardscrabble Rd. you are invited! There will be food and drink, bring a chair or
blanket. If you have anything kind or unkind you would like to say to me, I give
you that opportunity. I would gladly accept forgiveness, but if you can’t do that I
understand and won’t hold it against you. This is also a meeting to offi cially announce
that I have stepped into my calling as an Evangelist and Ambassador
of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ our Lord. In Him I received forgiveness and redemption
and the power and authority to put my past behind me and live a new
and resurrected life, thru His death and resurrection and my committment to you
and the world is that I have dedicated the rest of my life to the cause of helping
others who have no hope, who have no answers to their situations, to fi nd it in
Christ Jesus as I have. It doesn’t matter what you have been through in life, or
what you have done wrong, there is enough power in the shed blood of Christ to
forgive, set free, heal any circumstances physical or emotional and spiritually, to
put your past away forever, have a new beginning, and new life and live forever.
I do not know of anything greater I can offer, I’ve been there and I know the way
to take you and introduce you to the one who died for you, so you can live in
peace, love and joy.
Yours truly,
Dear Editor
How do we impress upon the residents of this county the importance of
voting June 26th primary I voted after 4 p.m. and was the 19th person to
vote, the 16th republican, in Woodhull Township and polls opened at noon.
How sad it is that our County Officials cannot get the word out that there
is to be a primary election, and sadder yet that we don’t know who the
candidates are. There still are ways other than the annoying phone calls
that we are exposed to everyday and the internet that most people don’t
pay attention to. I heard about the primary on 82 AM radio about a week
prior to the primary.
I heard one candidate advertise on 82 AM only. Never heard the names
of the female candidates who were running. June 27th, I ran errands and
out of 6 people that I spoke to about the primary, only one knew there was
a primary and two of the six were not registered to vote. Out of 57,012 active
registered voters in Steuben County, 2455 of them or .043 percent of
them voted June 26th. What has happened to our County, our State and
our Nation that has made the residents so complacent What happened
to the pride in our country It is everyone’s responsibility to vote, to put
the best, most responsible people in Government positions ensuring our
Country will always be ONE nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and
justice for ALL. Mark September 13, 2012 on your calendar. It is state and
local primary day.
We thank you big daddy Gov. as you defer our fears cradle us from the
Air Conditioners Available For Low-Income New
Yorkers With Serious Medical Conditions
Annual Cooling Initiative, Directed by Homes and Community Renewal,
Offers Relief for Vulnerable New Yorkers During Heat Wave Governor Andrew
M. Cuomo announced assistance for low-income New Yorkers whose health
issues pose a medical emergency during the extended period of hot weather
forecasted for the state in the coming days.
“The late spring and early summer have already brought several heat waves,
which can be life-and-death matters for New Yorkers with serious medical
conditions,” Governor Cuomo said. “Senior citizens and children are especially
susceptible to heat-related illness, and this initiative will provide low-income
homes with much-needed air conditioners so that New Yorkers have the assistance
they need to stay cool and healthy.”
In order to protect vulnerable New Yorkers, New York State has set aside
$3 million in funding through the federally-funded Low-Income Home Energy
Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
“Summer heat can be dangerous for many New Yorkers,” said U.S. Senator
Charles E. Schumer. “I strongly urge eligible families and seniors to take advantage
of this program to help keep their homes safe and comfortable. As this
heat wave moves across New York, it’s absolutely essential that seniors aren’t
put at risk because they can’t afford to keep their homes cool.”
“Working with our non-profi t partners across the state, we are happy to
provide some relief to those needy New Yorkers with medical conditions,” said
Darryl C. Towns, Commissioner/CEO of New York State Homes and Community
Renewal (HCR), which administers LIHEAP. “But if you fi nd yourself without
air conditioning and in a true heat emergency this summer, please do not wait:
head to your nearest local cooling center.”
Eligibility for the program is determined by:
1) LIHEAP low-income guidelines. (For a four-person household, the maximum
gross annual income to qualify is approximately $49,500.)
2) Having at least one household member who has been diagnosed with a
chronic or acute medical condition which is aggravated by exposure to extreme
heat situations.
3) A doctor providing written documentation (dated within the last six months)
that air-conditioning assistance is critical to prevent a heat emergency.
Households that have a working air conditioner or have received one from
the State in the last 10 years are not eligible.
The cooling program is administered by HCR with funding provided from
the federal Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) funds, through the
Offi ce of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA). HCR’s network of 63
local Weatherization agencies will provide delivery and installation of cooling
program services, and funds have been allocated to ensure coverage in each
of the state’s 62 counties.
These agencies will accept applications, determine eligibility, and oversee
the installation of the air-conditioning units. Under the terms of the grant, one
air conditioner will be awarded to an eligible household or dwelling unit, with
installation and labor included. Grants do not include an additional HEAP cash
benefi t to cover the cost of operating the air conditioning unit.
The full list of local cooling program administrators is below:
Questions regarding the HEAP program should be directed to local providers
listed above or the NYS HEAP Hotline at 1-800-342-3009.
Those who want to see if they qualify under HEAP’s income guidelines should
visit www.mybenefi ts.ny.gov
Governor Cuomo Signs Legislation to Designate
A Portion of Route I-390 in Steuben County As
The Sergeant Devin Snyder Memorial Highway
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today signed legislation to designate a portion of Route I-390 in Steuben
County as the Sergeant Devin Snyder Memorial Highway.
“Sergeant Snyder bravely served our nation before her untimely, tragic death,” Governor Cuomo said.
“As we mark our nation’s founding this July 4th, we must honor the lives of fallen service members, and I
am pleased that Sergeant Snyder’s memory and sacrifi ce will be forever recognized with the renaming of a
portion of Route I-390. I thank the bill sponsors for their work to ensure that our heroes’ sacrifi ces are never
forgotten.”
This highway portion’s new name honors the sacrifi ce of the late U.S. Army Sergeant Devin A. Snyder of
the Town of Cohocton in Steuben County. Sergeant Snyder died on June 4, 2011 as a result of wounds suffered
when an improvised explosive device struck her vehicle during a mounted patrol in Lagham province,
Afghanistan. She was assigned to the 164th Military Police Company, of the 793rd Military Police Battalion,
part of the 3rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade based at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. She
was the first female soldier from Western New York to die in the war.
Senator Tom O’Mara said, “We appreciate Governor Cuomo’s swift signing of this legislation into law. It’s
a timely and fi tting tribute on this Independence Day to recall the life, service and ultimate sacrifi ce of one
of our local heroes. The ‘Sergeant Devin Snyder Memorial Highway’ will forever honor Devin’s memory and
express our enduring gratitude and respect for her service to America.”
Assembly Member Philip Palmesano said, “The designation of the ‘Sergeant Devin Snyder Memorial
Highway’ offers another opportunity for the Cohocton community and all of the residents of Steuben County
to pay our enduring respect to Devin’s admirable and courageous service to our nation. We’re grateful to
Governor Cuomo for his immediate action on this meaningful tribute.”
When Love Walks in the Valley
As sleepy days wind down to evening
And eerie shadows fi ll the room,
The honeysuckle by the window
Ushers in its sweet perfume.
Outside the wind is softly sighing
Like a baby’s fretful whine
And the dust is swiftly creeping
O’er the land by God’s design.
‘Tis then that quiet shrouds my room
And I am trapped in thought
As I refl ect upon God’s love
And beauties He has wrought.
When love walks in the valley
And I am laid to rest,
I trust it will be said of me,
Cooking Matters For Families
Series Begins July 10
Eat Smart New York is offering a new series of
classes called Cooking Matters for Families which
will be offered on Tuesdays, July 10, 17, 24; and
August 7, 14, 21 at the St. Thomas Episcopal
Church in Bath. The classes are open to parents,
grandparents raising grandchildren, moms and dads
and are FREE!
A Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben
county nutrition educator from the ESNY program
will coordinate and facilitate the class. In each
session, food preparation and cooking skills are
practiced along with interactive nutrition activities.
After the meal is prepared, all the participants eat
together. And as an added bonus, each family takes
home the ingredients to make the main dish with
their children for their family at home.
The Cooking Matters classes are sponsored
by Share Our Strength, a national nonprofi t that is
working to end childhood hunger in America by connecting
children with the nutritious food they need to
lead healthy, active lives. Cooking Matters has received
special recognition from the U.S. Department
of Agriculture for excellence in nutrition education.
The Cooking Matters series is limited to 10 participants
(5 parent/child teams - children must be 8
years old or older). So, call today to register your
space at 607-664-2300.
and the Davis Cemetery. The group then visited the Hauber Cemetery. An interesting mystery
was uncovered during research about the Davis Cemetery that were able to partially
solve during our tour. A 1953 listing of tombstones by Ina G. Church showed 26 persons
identifi ed as buried there. After a 1990 visit, Judy Allen Cwkinski concluded in her Rootsweb
article that most of those lised by Church had been moved to other cemeteries in the area
since so few tombstones remained. However, we found that none of those names are found
in any other West Union cemeteries. On our tour, we were able to identify nine of the 26
persons on the list by their tombstones, some of which were partially buried. It is likely that
other tombstones could be found if the underbrush could be trimmed. Persons interested
in helping to improve the condition of the Davis Cemetery, or who have interest in future
events focused on local history, should email Terry Smith at tjsmith49@yahoo.com
Help Your House of Worship; It Has Always Helped You
If you have been attending your House of Worship for any length of time, you know you have been doing it
for a reason. Just being there has helped you through many a crisis or sorrow in your life. You have benefi ted
greatly from the inspiring sermons, and perhaps you have had an occasional talk with your clergyman
about some problem. Now, if at all possible, you should do something in return. Whatever you are able to
do, such as making phone calls, arranging a potluck dinner, helping with a cleanup project, etc., would be
welcome. It will help you to repay all the blessings and guidance you have received there over the years.
