Phelan - Bailey 

Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Bailey of Allenwood, Pa., and Mrs. 

Muriel Hykes and Dr. Paul Shuch of Cogan Station, 

Pa. are pleased to announce the wedding of their son, 

Devin Alexander Bailey to Samantha Nicole Phelan. 

Samantha is the daughter of John and Teresa Phelan 

of Tuscarora, New York. 

Devin graduated in 2006 from Williamsport, Pa. Samantha 

graduated in 2007 from ACS, Addison, New 

York. They met at Mansfi eld University, Pa. in 2007 

and have been engaged since 2008. They are both 

employed at GRC in Horseheads, New York. 

The couple plans to wed August 10th, 2013 at Holy 

Child Catholic Parish in Mansfi eld, Pa. Father Pat of 

St. Catherine’s in Addison, New York will be helping to 

officiate the ceremony. The couple will be honeymooning 

in Cancun, Mexico. They will reside in Tuscarora. 

Addison United Methodist Women Honor Mary Crane 

The Addison United Methodist Women and relatives honored Mary Crane on May 13th at their Spring 

District Dinner at Watson Homestead. 

Mary grew up in Hammondsport, with a brother and sister and worked in her father’s grocery store. At 

age 12 she remembers vividly being baptized in Keuka Lake. 

She graduated from Campbell High School and attended Jean Summers Business School in Elmira until 

her father had a heart attack, and she came home to run their store in Thurston until he recovered. She 

then worked at Westinghouse in Bath until she married Lyman (Bud) Crane and raised 3 children. She 

and Bud ran the A-1 Auto Parts business in Addison for 20+ years. Mary also worked in the License 

Bureau in Bath 

and Corning. They joined the Addison United Methodist Church, and Mary has served in many leadership 

positions including Administrative Council, Council of Churches, 

Memorial Fund treasurer, and Ad Council secretary. She works the turkey dinners and bakes our famous 

sticky buns. 

As a very active person in the community, she has held several offi ces in Eastern Star, was Addison 

Town Clerk for many years, and is currently on the Addison Town Board. 

Other activities include the Addison Food Pantry, the Ambassadors, the Senior Citizens and the Quilt Club. 

Family life means a lot to Mary; and the one sad part of her life was when their son, Scott, was diagnosed 

at the age of 23 with brain tumors and after many operations and treatments, he passed away at the age 

of 33. Their family felt blessed that their son taught them how to live the life that the Lord has given you! 

Mary is a “doer” and we are pleased to honor her with our U.M.W. Mission Recognition for 2012.

Historical Society Meeting 

The program for the Lindley-Presho Historical Society 

will be Good Old Days in Lindley. The audience is encouraged 

to bring stories and pictures about Lindley 

in previous years. The meeting will be on Thursday, 

May 23rd at 7 P.M. at the Lindley Town Hall. Meetings 

are free .The public is invited to come and share in the 

reminiscing about the Lindley area in the past.

on Monday, May 20th, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Baptist 

Church on Baldwin Ave. in Addison. YOU are invited

Town of Lindley 

Armed Forces Day Ceremony 

The Town of Lindley and the Tioga County, Pennsylvania 

Honor Guard will honor Lindley area Veterans 

on Sunday, May 19th 2013, 2 P.M. at the Lindley Town 

Hall on U.S. Rt.15 

This year World War II and Korean War Veterans 

will be the honored guests. The Woodhull Community 

Band will play Patriotic music. Refreshments will be 

served at a Social Hour following the ceremony. 

The public is invited to attend and hopefully will bring a 

veteran and/or a present member of the Armed Forces.

The Addison Public Library Book Sale will be held 

Friday, May 17 from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturday, 

May 18 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Addison Community

Morseman Wins Delaware Marathon 

Sets Fastest Marathon Time on 

Delaware Soil 

On Sunday, May 12, 2013 Bryan Morseman traveled 

to Wilmington, Delaware, with nearly perfect 

racing conditions temps hovering around 60 degrees, 

mostly sunny skies and a slight breeze, the 26.2 mile 

course that wandered through Wilmington and ended 

at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront park was ripe for the 

picking. The runners took advantage of the conditions. 

Bryan won and ran a time of 2:24:48 which is the best 

ever time for a marathon on Delaware soil, topping 

four-time champion Michael Wardian’s 2011 time by 

23 seconds. Bryan said he knew right from the get-go 

he was gonna have a good race. Bryan said “I knew 

at the same time, the course was tough and I had to 

keep that momentum going.” He added that he couldn’t 

even be happier than I am right now.” 

J-T Board Of Education Meeting 

The Jasper-Troupsburg Board of Education will hold 

its next regular meeting on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 

with the board beginning its executive session/board 

planning at 6pm and the regular meeting will begin at 

7pm at the elementary school building in Troupsburg. 

Chicken Barbeque 

The Troupsburg United Methodist Church will hold 

its annual Chicken Barbeque on Monday, May 27, 

2013 from 11:00 a.m. until the chicken is gone. The 

cost is $8.00 for a full dinner and $5.00 for 1/2 chicken 

only. Carry outs are available in the garage beside 

the church and can be preordered by calling Kate 

LeBarron at 525-6382 anytime before serving begins. 

Spaghetti Dinner Benefit 

A Spaghetti Dinner Benefi t will be held for Joe Ribble 

on May 19th, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. - until at the 

Woodhull Fire Hall. $7.00 adults; 12 and under FREE. 

Chinese Auction/ 50/50 drawing, door prize. 

Joe has been battling a long term illness and the 

benefi t is being held to help pay for medical and travel 

expenses. 

Jasper Old Home Day Art Contest 

Do you have a hobby, craft or artistic skill you would 

like to display in a new show to be held at the Jasper 

Old Home Day, July 4, 2013 Enter your Photography, 

woodworking, needlework, sewing, artwork etc. 

in “Show Us Your Creativity!” and let us all enjoy your 

talent and ingenuity! The three categories include: 

Children (up to age 10, Teens (up to 18) and Adult (19 

and up). There will be a small entry fee to cover the 

cost of prizes; the public will choose the winners. For

This years theme is “Small Town - Big Surprises”. 

Among the many activities being planned are an early 

morning foot race, the traditional Old Home Day parade, 

barbecued chicken dinner, music, games for all

to the Jasper-Troupsburg School building. Details with 

times for all events will follow in the near future. 

Memorial Service at 

East Troupsburg Baptist Church 

The annual Memorial service will be held at the East 

Troupsburg Baptist church on May 26th, at 2:30pm. 

The speaker will be Sheriff Cole. This will be followed 

by a dish of food to share in the church basement. 

Drinks will be furnished, but you need to bring your 

own table service, and a dish of food to share. As 

always, service men past and present will be recognized 

at the service. Hoping to see you there.

WHEN IT’S A NERVE PROBLEM, 

USE CHIROPRACTIC FIRST.

The onset of a nerve problem should be taken very 

seriously. Fix it! 

Second, chiropractic treatment should be tested or 

begun early. 

Third, once a person begins taking drugs for a nerve 

problem, the drugs can interfere with the body’s ability 

to heal naturally, i.e., via chiropractic. 

As an example, once you start the drug “dopamine” 

for Parkinson’s-like, “nerve” symptoms, then the 

brain senses it doesn’t need to produce dopamine 

Consequently, the body’s natural ability to produce 

dopamine is progressively reduced through the “negative 

feedback” system, i.e., a stronger dose of dopamine is 

needed for the same results; as endogenous dopamine 

is reduced. Then things worsen quickly. 

But, what if it wasn’t really Parkinson’s or MS, yet 

When the doctor tells you they don’t know the cause of 

your nerve problem, or it looks like it could be Parkinson’s 

or, it could be MS, then see Dr. Meinsen. You’d be 

amazed at how often the cause is generally something 

very simple to identify! 

Fourth, chronicity is the biggest factor to the recovery 

from a nerve problem. Don’t wait too long. 

Typically, a person will notice numbness, weakness, 

twitching or that a hand shakes. These people generally 

see their M.D. Tests are done. Medical people tell you to 

do-this, to do-that, and you-do! 

Then one day they tell you to take a certain drug…, 

when you think you’ve been told ALL the scientific facts 

about your problem, and then given the option of simply 

taking a pill daily, that’s probably what you’ll do. Then, 

“treatment” is for the symptoms, not the cause. It’s too 

late for chiropractic. 

Consequently, I recommend seeing a chiropractor 

before an MD, or at least concomitantly because, it’s 

best PRIOR to going on drugs! I think your MD would 

agree with this.

Memorial Day Parade 

The Addison American Legion Memorial Day Parade will 

be held Monday, May 27th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Parade 

line up time is 9:30 a.m. at the high school. Immediately 

after the parade a celebration will be held at the Addison 

American Legion Post 730, 85 Maple Street. The Legion 

Auxiliary invites you to join them for a luncheon after the 

celebration. The Civil War Re-enactment will take place 

across the street from the legion.

Elkland Area SR Club 

The Elkland Area Sr Citizens Club held their May 2nd 

luncheon meeting at the Elkland Fire Hall. There were 

48 members in attendance. Barbara Ball joined as a new 

member of the group. 

President Dick Vargeson led a discussion on how to cut 

expenses for the club. Also discussed was a bake sale 

during the Elkland Jubilee, raising dues and a Chinese 

auction in June. 

Entertainment was the Williamson School Jazz Band 

under the direction of Eric Lavelle. As always the students 

did a great job and we hope they will be back soon. 

Chris Hendrickson and Laverna Vargeson provided 

cookies for the band members. 

It was announced the Westfield Historical Society has 

DVD’s for sale on the Westfield Tannery. The Coates 

Heritage House Museum is now publishing a quarterly 

pamphlet on the goings on at the Museum in Elkland. 

Birthdays were Jim Marold, Bill Schoonover and Elwin 

Smith. Celebrating anniversaries were Jim and Carol 

Marold, Glen and Chris Hendrickson and Abe and Lorraine 

Thurston.

with Artist-in-Residence Tony Ferro, learn to 

play the ancient didgeridoo and mouth bow to recreate 

the prehistoric sounds of an age long past 

with Artist-in Residents, Paul Speight, and make 

your own fossil imprint.

The Class of 2013 will be leaving for their senior trip on Friday, 

May 31, and will be returning on Saturday, June 1. Headed by 

class advisors, Mrs. Olander and Mrs. Mourhess, the students will 

spend time in Washington, D.C. touring the monuments and the 

Museum of Natural History before going on a DJ dinner cruise 

down the Potomac River. Mrs. Olander is most 

excited about seeing Washington, D.C. at night 

while on the cruise. After spending the night in 

Washington, the students will make a stop at 

Hershey Park before returning to Addison. We 

hope that everyone has a safe and wonderful trip!

Our April High School Students of the Month are 

Emily Hynes, Darien Bettinger, Jonah Burton, and 

Kylie Dunn. 

According to Mrs. Janeski, Emily is very caring and 

thoughtful. Darien’s English teacher states that she 

is very serious about her studies and pleasant in 

class. Mr. Palko says that Jonah is an extremely 

hard worker and always on time. Kylie Dunn does 

a great job of keeping up with her work.

A group of 7th grade students met with the 6th grade class on Wednesday, 

May 15, to answer questions about life in the middle school. Makenna Barber 

said that many of the elementary students’ questions centered around 

lockers and schedules; Noah Plumley was excited to have had the opportunity 

to serve on the panel. The 6th graders are looking forward to attending 

Addison Middle School next year!

Brewer and Noah Plumley. 

Mackenzie’s 8th grade team says that she 

actively volunteers in all classes, sets high 

academic goals for herself, and achieves 

high academic standards. 

According to his teachers, Noah is polite 

and courteous and is always willing to 

help his classmates.

Several organizations from across the Southern Tier have 

united to offer unique learning opportunities for children and 

young adults during the summer months. These organizations 

have a common goal of extending the traditional school year 

into a third summer semester. Their offerings have another 

purpose as well - to provide students with STEM (Science, 

Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills that are essential 

to their success in the future.

Marching Band season is now upon us! Mrs. Hamblin has scheduled 

after school marching practices for the following dates: 

Tuesday, May 21 st (3:00-4:30) 

Wednesday, June 5 th (3:00-4:30) 

***I know a lot of our students also play on sport teams. That is great; 

my children do as well! Just let me know if the marching practices conflict 

with games, etc. I believe that most of the games and practices 

are later in the evening, so I am hoping that everyone will be able to attend 

marching practice. If you would like your child to walk to the field

SCHOOL at 9:15AM dressed in their new band shirt 

and dark pants or shorts. The parade begins at 

10:00AM and ends around 11:00AM at the American Legion. 

The students may be picked up at the Legion following 

the parade(The students need to leave their cases 

with their parents, as we will not be returning to the 

HS following the parade). 

Colonial Days Parade – June 8, 2013. Detailed information 

about this parade and permission slips will be 

coming home soon. Please save the date!

Praying is good for the soul and therapeutic for our personal well-being. Developing a prayer 

life helps give us the grace to accept things in this life as they are, and the hope of God’s mercy 

toward us in the next. Each day we should thank our Lord for all the days of life He has given 

us. We should realize that, a part from God, everything else is of little value. If all the sufferings 

and joys of our past draw us closer to our Father in Heaven, they were of immeasurable value. 

Praying for the needs of others as well as praying for our own personal desires is important in 

our prayer life. Intercessory prayer for our loved ones and friends is not only favored by God, it 

also helps to make us mindful of the needs of others. We have a wonderful God and although we 

are not always able to understand His decisions and methods, we know He loves us and wants 

only the best for us.
