Rebecca Mather’s College Graduation 

Where has the time gone Not so long ago we were the typical American parents 

with children involved in every sport that needed personal valets and our time 

was theirs. We have faced the empty nest, had to walk away from two children 

(daughter & son) who chose to serve their country in the US Army & US Air Force, 

married two daughters, embraced two son-in-laws, welcomed two grand babies, 

and packed up yet another and escorted her off to college. As with most of you, 

who have done the same, there were many tears along the way. It’s our opinion and 

has been our experience that letting go is one of the hardest things a parent has 

to do. We have to let them spread their wings and soar. You’ll be amazed at what 

they can accomplish and be blessed beyond belief when they come back and share 

their experiences and successes. We are there again and couldn’t be prouder. On 

May 5, 2012, we were privileged to be able to watch our Rebecca J. Mather, walk 

across the platform at Robert’s Wesleyan College and receive her college degree. 

Her accomplishments include completing a four year program in three with a grade 

point average that ranked her among the top ten 

percent of her class to receive the honor of Magna 

Cum Laude. In addition, she worked full time and 

played numerous sports. To all the coaches and 

teachers at ACS who encouraged her to pursue her 

dreams “Thank You” and a special shout out to Kim 

Falkenberg who taught her that with God all things 

are possible. Rebecca is the daughter of Barry & 

Peggy Mather of Addison, a 2005 graduate of Hope 

Christian Academy, a 2009 graduate of Addison 

Central School and now a 2012 graduate of Robert’s 

Wesleyan College. Her plans are to remain in the 

Rochester area and pursue her Master’s degree 

in finance with a concentration in Accounting. She 

will be home over Memorial Day weekend for her 

graduation celebration and her twin brothers send 

off to Korea (Scott Yeaples) so if you happen to see 

her be sure to say hello and congrats! 

Mosolf Awarded Summer Internship 

Jessica Mosolf was awarded a summer internship with the Smithsonian 

Environment Research Center in Washington 

DC. 

Jessica is a 2009 graduate of Addison 

High School and is currently a senior at 

Chapman University in Orange, CA, majoring 

in Environmental Science. She is the 

daughter of Phil and Deb Mosolf of Addison, 

New York. Her maternal Grandmother 

is Margaret Gee of Addison, New York. 

The Smithsonian Environment Research 

Center (SERC) leads the nation in discovering 

the links between land and water 

ecosystems in the coastal zone. Jessica 

was offered this prestigious internship 

opportunity due to her strong application 

and the great recommendations from two 

of her college professors. Congratulations 

Jessica. We are very proud of you. 

Defensive Driving Course 

The six-hour National Safety Council “Defensive Driving Course” will be given 

on Monday, June 4th and Tuesday, June 5th, 2012 from 6:15 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., 

at the Jasper-Troupsburg High School, Main Street, Jasper. A fee is charged 

and payable at the course. The instructor for the course is Richard E. Swan. 

The defensive driving course offers all drivers, and those not yet driving a 

new approach to learning accident prevention skills and safe driver tips. The 

course also automatically deducts 4 points from your driving record, and allows 

all principal operators of vehicles to save 10% on their liability, and collision 

auto insurance premiums for 3 years. Pre-registration is required and space is

The Tuscarora Mobile Food Distribution, sponsored by the

The Art Institute Pittsburgh 

Deanna & Alfred Horton of Cameron Mills, NY 

and Michael and Lisa Gaboriault of Cayuta, NY

son Andrew Michael Thomas Gaboriault into The 

Art Institute Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA. Andrew 

will be majoring in cinematography and visual effects 

with a minor in music. Andrew is a member 

of the National Honor Society, he was awarded the 

“Semper Fi” Musical Excellence , was chosen as 

the WENY Everyday Heroes, he was a member 

of the Youth Orchestra of the Finger Lakes and 

he will be graduating 9th in his class. We are very 

proud of all his accomplishments and wish him all 

the best in college. 

“Greengrass” Selected to Section V 

Baseball Hall of Fame 

Jim Greengrass, former professional 

baseball player from Addison, New York, 

now living in Chatsworth, GA, has recently 

heard of his selection to the Section Five 

NYS Public High School Athletic Association 

Hall of Fame. 

Jimmy will be honored at the Rochester 

Red Wings game on Sunday, June 24th 

with a plaque to be permanently placed 

on a wall at Frontier Field. Induction time 

will be held at 4:00 p.m., game time 5:05.

Addison U. M. W. Honor Lois Housel 

Monday, May 14, the Addison United Methodist Women honored Lois Housel 

as their Mission Recognition Person for 2011 at the Mountain View District 

UMW Dinner at Watson Homestead. She received a gold cross lapel pin and 

certificate. Ten relatives and friends attended with her. 

The Addison United Methodist Church was home to Lois Housel’s deceased 

husband, Leonard, for 67 years. Both helped in the church kitchen preparing 

dinners for many years, and you can still find Lois there early in the morning 

peeling potatoes or starting the stuffing for turkey dinners. She contributes to 

bake sales and fund raisers making pies, cakes, breads and cookies. She has 

three sons and is now enjoying her wonderful grandchildren, reading many 

books, and crocheting. Gospel music is a favorite, and she tries to attend and 

listen to her middle son play his guitar in a praise band. Lois volunteers with 

the Southern Tier Food Bank once a month, and donates to the Appalachian 

Project, Christmas Shoe Box Ministry, and local Christmas Food Baskets. Lois 

has her own “hat ministry.” Many of us have one or more of her hats. She has 

crocheted and donated well over 100 hats and made afghans or whatever is 

needed for our church bazaars. Faithful to her Lord, Lois demonstrates this 

in her very loving and uncomplaining care of all the members of her family as 

well as community members. 

“Richly blessed,” is the way Lois describes her life, and we feel we have 

been “richly blessed” knowing her. It is fun to work with Lois who is dependable 

and upbeat, but prefers to remain in the background. She participates in our 

prayer chain ministry and has a loving way of interacting with people. We are 

happy to honor her as our Mission Recognition Person for 2011.

Woodhull Winterfest 

Mark your calendars! You’re invited to “come 

to town” to kick off the holiday season the small 

town way. The Town of Woodhull is hosting its 

fi rst Winterfest on Saturday, November 17th from 

5-9 p.m. The event promises to be an excellent, 

family oriented festival with a special tree lighting 

ceremony, a visit from Santa, caroling, prize drawings, 

craft sales, food vendors and more. New 

decorations will adorn the streets and folks who 

enjoy a little friendly competition will be able to 

enter a House Decorating contest to be judged 

later in December. 

Event planners are inviting individuals, businesses, 

churches and civic groups to participate 

by contributing suggestions, organizing an activity 

or making a monetary sponsor donation. If you

married Virginia Moore 

on January 5, 1980 at 

the home of Terry and 

Sue Moore, with Patricia 

Moore officiating. 

Robert loved to work 

around his home, tending 

to his lawn and 

gardens. He enjoyed 

cooking and spending 

time with his feline companion. 

He also had a 

passion for trains. As a 

hobby in his spare time 

he was a conductor on 

the Tioga Junction Excursion 

Train. Robert 

proudly drove school 

buses for Addison Central 

School for 15 years. 

He is survived by

Chilson Wilcox’s Pirates take out Painted

Gehrig Allen went 1-2, Adam Chilson 2-4, 

and Noah Plumley 2-4 to spark the Pirates 

to a 9-4 victory in 6 innings. Ryan Madigan 

got the win on the mound allowing 4 runs 

over 4/3 innings. He struck out 11, walked 

1 and allowed on ly 5 hits. He also had 2 

RBI’s. In the second game on Saturday, 

Lindley Presho came to Addison to take on 

the Eagles Club Dodgers.

On May 1st, 2012, 63 area seniors met at the 

Woodhull Town Hall. Arnold Herrington gave the 

pledge and Louis Hilborn the invocation. Our 

guest speakers were John and Catherine Bloise 

who showed slides of their missionary trips to 

Africa. This was very interesting. May birthdays 

are Dick Taft, Charles Shauf, and Bernice Cook. 

June and Roy Crans and Ray and Fran Dunn 

have anniversaries this month.

Greengrass Selected To 2012 Section V Baseball Hall of Fame 

The following informational letter was sent to Jim Greengrass from the Section Five NYS Public High School 

Athletic Association. 

Jim, 

t is a pleasure for me, on behalf of the Section V Baseball Hall of Fame, 

o extend congratulations upon your selection to the Section V Baseball 

all of Fame. This is a coveted award and your selection exemplifi es your 

utstanding contribution to Section V baseball and beyond. 

There will be an induction ceremony on Sunday, June 24th before the 

ochester Red Wings game at 5:05 that evening. You will be honored 

ith a plaque that will be permanently placed on a wall at Frontier Field. A 

plaque will also be given to you to keep. Please arrive by 3:30 p.m., as the 

ceremony will take place at 4:00. 

You and a guest will be our guests for the evening. The cost for others you 

would like in attendance will be $20. This will include an all-you-can-eat meal

Background information history: Jim Greengrass was born on October 

24, 1927 in Addison, New York. Jim Greengrass spent 5 years in the Major 

Leagues patrolling the outfield for the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies! 

Jim joined the Reds in 1952 and appeared in 18 games. He gave the Cincinnati 

fans a taste of things to come as he clouted 5 home runs in only 68 at bats while 

batting at a .305 clip. 1953 saw Greengrass enjoy his fi rst full season with the 

Reds and he delivered big time blasting 20 home runs and driving in 100 RBI 

while hitting .285! Jim teamed with hard-hitting Reds slugger Ted Kluszewski to form one of baseball’s most 

feared long ball threats from 1953-54. They set the Reds record for most home runs by a duo in one month 

with 22 in August of 1954. Jim had another banner year at the plate in 1954 as he belted out 27 bombs with 

95 RBI while batting .280! Jim was traded to the Phillies on April 30, 1955. He smashed a home run in his 

very fi rst game with Philadelphia. Jim played in 504 games over his 5 year career and hit 69 home runs and 

243 runs scored while batting .269!

Katharine McClellan graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts 

degree in history from Nazareth College on Saturday, May 12. McClellan was 

honored with membership in the Phi Alpha 

Theta, Theta Alpha Kappa, and Pi Gamma 

Mu honor societies. She also earned 

Dean’s List honors for seven semesters 

and presented a paper at the 2011 Phi 

Alpha Theta Conference. 

A native of Addison, NY, McClellan is the 

daughter of Mrs. Jennie McClellan and the 

late William McClellan. She graduated from 

Addison High School in 2008. McClellan 

plans to pursue a career in Biblical Studies 

at St. Bernard’s School of Theology and 

Ministry in their Masters of Theological 

Studies program in Rochester, NY.

(5/10/12) Last week we had a general discussion 

where each member had a chance to give 

input on their success. We discussed what has 

helped us and how to help others. Two of the 

greatest things we can do are to watch portions 

and exercise. We need to be supportive of each

with you when you die, it’s what you leave behind. 

Think about your heritage and those who have 

made a difference in your life. This was Mother’s 

Day and we need to refl ect on this. If we are 

privileged enough to have Godly mothers and/or 

grandmothers, we should remember the difference 

they made. In today’s scripture we read where 

Paul wrote to Timothy. Paul had seen something 

in Timothy’s grandmother, Lois and his mother, 

Eunice, and then he also saw it in Timothy. He 

told Timothy to fan into fl ame the gift of God. Our 

heritage- people before us- showed us by the way 

they lived. Now we should pass on what they left 

behind. It is very important to know that someone 

showed you what it meant to have faith in Christ, 

the power of prayer, the importance of listening and 

leaning on Christ. We have two responsibilities. 

(1) Live up to that heritage, their investment in our 

lives. Ask yourself, “Am I living up to my heritage 

Would they be proud that I am fanning the flame” 

Or are we letting the fl ame smolder and maybe go 

out (2) To be doing the same thing for those who 

come after us Will others fi nd us faithful Look

Repentance Is Good For The Soul 

Psalm 32 is a wonderful psalm about the forgiveness that God displays when we are repentant for our sins. It says in part: “Happy are those 

whose sins are forgiven, whose wrongs are pardoned. Happy is the man whom the Lord does not accuse of doing wrong and who is free 

from all deceit. When I did not confess my sins I was worn out from crying all day long. Then I confessed my sins to you; I did not conceal 

my wrong doings. I decided to confess them to you and you forgave all my sins.” This psalm refl ects the great love that God has for us; 

however, when we sin and have no remorse, we are opposing God. It is important for us to be sorry and repentant for our wrongdoing as 

soon as we realize that we have sinned. We should ask our Heavenly Father for forgiveness, make an honest effort to refrain from sinning 

and, whenever possible, try to make amends for whatever wrong we have done. The Bible tells us that God is ever ready to forgive our 

transgressions, and keep us in His unmerited favor.
