A globally renowned neurosurgeon and<br />
researcher, Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa,<br />
MD, started his life in the United States<br />
as an undocumented immigrant. At the<br />
age of 19, he risked his life by jumping a<br />
border fence from Mexico into the<br />
United States. Quiñones-Hinojosa<br />
made his way to California where he<br />
worked as a cotton picker, painter, and<br />
welder. He earned a scholarship to the<br />
University of California-Berkeley and<br />
went on to graduate from Harvard<br />
Medical School with honors. Today he<br />
is a professor and director of the<br />
Pituitary Tumor Center at Johns<br />
Hopkins Hospital. He performs nearly<br />
250 brain operations a year and has<br />
been featured on CNN Heroes and<br />
National Public Radio, and in The New<br />
York Times. Quiñones-Hinojosa will<br />
sign copies of his book Becoming Dr. Q<br />
immediately after the plenary.<br />

Cultural Event: The City Museum<br />
Explore the unexpected! Consisting largely<br />
of repurposed architectural and industrial<br />
objects, City Museum is an eclectic mixture<br />
of funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and<br />
architectural marvel. Visitors are<br />
encouraged to feel, touch, climb on, and<br />
play in the various exhibits.<br />
Fee: $75 per person; includes round-trip<br />
transportation from the convention center<br />
(departing at 6:45 p.m.), admission to<br />
museum, food stations, entertainment;<br />
