Starting the multi-user server or broker<br />

Starting <strong>OpenEdge</strong> in Windows<br />

Before you can run multi-user Progress, you must start the multi-user server process.<br />

The server process coordinates all the database requests from all the users using a<br />

single database. You can use <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Management or <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Explorer to start<br />

the multi-user server process, or you can use the comm<strong>and</strong>-line interface. The sections<br />

that follow describe these methods of starting the multi-user server process.<br />

Using <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Management or <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Explorer to start the multi-user<br />

You can use <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Management or <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Explorer to start a multi-user<br />

server process.<br />

Start <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Management or <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Explorer <strong>and</strong> establish a connection to<br />

one or more AdminServers. See Chapter 10, “<strong>Configuration</strong>,” for more information<br />

about starting <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Management or <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Explorer, <strong>and</strong> see the <strong>OpenEdge</strong><br />

Management or <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Explorer online help for detailed instructions on using<br />

<strong>OpenEdge</strong> Management or <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Explorer to start a multi-user server process.<br />

Using the comm<strong>and</strong> line interface to start the multi-user server process<br />

Enter the following comm<strong>and</strong> at the comm<strong>and</strong> line to start the multi-user server<br />

process:<br />

proserve db-name [ parameters ]<br />

db-name<br />

Specifies the database you want to start Progress against (-db is implicit).<br />
