Appendix B: Preinstallation Checklist for UNIX<br />

Java platform requirements<br />

If your installation requires either the JDK or the JRE, proceed according to these<br />

points:<br />

❒ Check the Java-specific requirements for your supported platform as identified in<br />

the “Chapter 2, “UNIX Systems <strong>Installation</strong> Requirements.”<br />

❒ If the required JDK or JRE is not provided with your installation medium, install the<br />

required element, ensuring that the JDK or JRE is the first Java entry in the $PATH<br />

environment variable. The variable’s value must point to /bin.<br />

<strong>Product</strong>s to install<br />

❒ Obtain serial numbers <strong>and</strong> control codes from the License Addendum. Control<br />

codes are not case sensitive <strong>and</strong> can be entered in any order.<br />

Values from your existing <strong>OpenEdge</strong> installation<br />

If the <strong>Installation</strong> Program detects an earlier <strong>OpenEdge</strong> Release 10 installation on the<br />

machine to which you are installing <strong>OpenEdge</strong> 11.0, you are prompted to use the<br />

values defined for the prior installation as default values in the <strong>OpenEdge</strong> 11.0<br />

installation. Proceed as follows:<br />

❒ Choose Yes to accept the values as default values. A reminder Initial values<br />

used from a previous installation displays at the bottom of each dialog box<br />

affected.<br />

❒ Choose No to decline the option. Only the <strong>Installation</strong> Program default values<br />

appear.<br />

<strong>Installation</strong> <strong>and</strong> working directories<br />

❒ Accept the default destination directory location provided,<br />

/usr/<strong>OpenEdge</strong>-install-dir, or define another location:<br />

_________________________. Do not use the pathname where other versions<br />

of Progress or <strong>OpenEdge</strong> products are already installed on your system.<br />

❒ Accept the default working directory location provided, /usr/wrk, in which your<br />

applications, databases, <strong>and</strong> log files will reside, or define another<br />

location: __________________________________. Do not make your working<br />

directory a subdirectory under the <strong>OpenEdge</strong> installation path.<br />
