Specifying the network type (-N)<br />

Each <strong>OpenEdge</strong> executable has a default network type determined by the operating<br />

system on which it runs. Table 66 lists the default network type that Progress uses on<br />

each supported operating system.<br />

Network addressing (-S <strong>and</strong> -H)<br />

In all network environments, you use the Service Name (-S) startup parameter to assign<br />

a name to an <strong>OpenEdge</strong> broker/server. You then address this broker/server from a<br />

remote client by using the same value for -S as a startup or database connection<br />

parameter. Depending on your network type, you might also have to specify additional<br />

addressing criteria for remote <strong>OpenEdge</strong> clients. In terms of <strong>OpenEdge</strong> addressing,<br />

the TCP protocol uses host addressing.<br />
