Flora
A total of 89 taxa were recorded during the two day survey comprising of nine exotics,
nine endemic and 71 indigenous species (see Appendix 1). The majority of the plants
recorded were trees comprising 73% (65 spp.) of the flora followed by lianas and
creepers with 14% (12 spp.), shrubs 9% (8 spp.) and ferns 4% (4 spp.). The three largest
groups are the families Fabaceae with twelve species followed by Euphorbiaceae with six
species and Rubiaceae and Apocynaceae with four species each. These four groups
comprise 25% of the overall flora of Makogadra island.
