Comments on the reported trend
Tenure classified as Stateland remains static
for most State land are legally binded to
remain with the State.
Tenure classified as Freehold lands remain
static, Freehold land does not get reclassified
but remain within the control of the
owner.
Tenure under the Communal Ownership
remains static.
Government is in the process of reverting
land ownership rights to the original owners.
Other general comments to the table
Description for all types of land tenure was obtained from the Fiji Department of Lands in 2009, including the
general trend in the reversion of land ownership from private individuals whom are mostly foreigners to the
indigenous owners.
