club olganised a Deerhound-day, a super locatiorr ancl bcautilul rveather. In tlre
rnorning we walked with the dogs, a short lralf an lrour walk lbl tlre younger hounds,
one hour for the older Deerhounds. They all walked fl'ee and it was a wonderful walk.
the dogs played with each other, ran through the watel and thcy all lrad a great time.
While the dogs were resting from their walk, we all had a srnall lunch. In the afternoon
there was a show for the young Deerhounds up to 24 rnontlrs of age. Mr.
Gerritsen, a Greyhound breeder and -judge for several breeds.judged the young dogs.
All the young Deerhounds got a report, and after each Deerhound he told the public
alound the ring what he thought about the dogs. He made it very clear that sonre
young dogs still had their.iunior faults. Everybody f-elt really pleased with his opinions,
his way of explaining the standard of the Deerhound, he compared it with the
standards ofother sighthound breeds. lt was very interesting to hear his ideas and
opinions. He also explained that younger dogs still have to glow and to develop the
things that they now are missing and pointed to all the good things he found in therl.
He also explained that even thoLrgh there were different type's of Deerhounds, some
stronger, sorne with lighter bone, some with lots of coat they still fitted part of the
standard and that it is very irnportant for the breed that they were there. If you need
something to irnplove or change things in the future in Deerhounds, at least the genes
will be there.
