Summer is over now. But what a summer!<br />
Sometimes dogs and exhibitors had to suffer<br />
under the unusual heat but on the other hand it<br />
was a real<br />
summer.<br />
3 <strong>Deerhound</strong> litters were born this year<br />
12.03 : Kennel Fortheringhay's 416 puppies<br />
were born sired by Fritzen's Highland Ghillie out<br />
of Mathilda von der OelmUhle<br />
23 05.: Kennel From Highlanders Yard 1/0<br />
puppy sired by Demian from Highlanders Yard<br />
out of Esprit from Highlanders Yard<br />
17.06.. Kennel Fiadhaich: 6/2 puppies sired by<br />
Lehigh Yanker the Deerhunter out of Clachtoll<br />
Quara.<br />
<strong>The</strong>re were several CC Shows held which<br />
mostly had a good entry. But it was not only at<br />
the shows that <strong>Deerhound</strong>s were well represented, a good number did also<br />
compete at the lure-coursings. Between 10 and 16 <strong>Deerhound</strong>s were always<br />
entered what shows that here <strong>Deerhound</strong> owners are very interested to let<br />

rtrtf r.rr ,rr iiwrtzerland. That was Shadrach, an Australian import from the<br />

{fdtrr{O.rx) trred by Virginia Hawke and owned by Esther Buhler He had alntaf<br />
.r),r .,cveral imporiant working titles like for example the International<br />
'rrrr,r.f'11 (:lrirrnpion and French Working Champion But this Spring, in the<br />
,r{{r ,rf M.ry, he had a terrible accident Running free on a walk he was hit by<br />
e ,{r' r:l rlot seriously injured. Just in time his owner could bring him to a vet<br />
r. r.r. ,rrrrr froftr bleeding to death. Besides other wounds one shoulder and<br />
r,rri. rt, wr:re open and 2 muscles were torn <strong>The</strong>y operated 4 hours on him to<br />
rr.r,r o,r(t r:lose the deep flesh wounds and to stitch the torn muscles. Luckily,<br />
r.. t*rx' w.rs fractured, 3 further operations followed, the last one a month after<br />
lN l..rlr,rrt, €rtd nobody could believe, that he would ever recover again. But<br />
,'r ,r,et I lrs will to live was unbroken. His owner says, he never lost his appetite<br />
*,r,r oltrrr ir week he wanted to go out for short walks. Two times a day he<br />
* q,rt w,rlk for 10 minutes. After one month he would walk 20 minutes, twice a<br />
hrr tt. was treated rruith a magnetic field therapy and a physiotherapist helped<br />
' .r',, 6 ll rt to get back tlie full mobility of the shoulder and front leg. <strong>The</strong>n, 2<br />
,,.,,r,1f 1,, ;rfter the fatal accident, he was allowed for the first time to run free. His<br />
*.,or .,1;rrted now to train him with the bicycle, to put up condition and after<br />
