Fellow in the School of History at the <strong>Australian</strong> Defence Force Academy, he continues<br />

his exploration of various aspects of <strong>Australian</strong> military history.<br />

Peter Dennis is Professor of History at the University of New South Wales at the<br />

<strong>Australian</strong> Defence Force Academy. He is a graduate of the University of Adelaide and<br />

Duke University, North Carolina, and has taught at the Royal Military College of Canada,<br />

the University of Western Ontario, the Faculty of Military Studies, Duntroon, and the<br />

National University of Singapore. His publications include, as joint author, The Oxford<br />

Companion to <strong>Australian</strong> Military History (1995) and Emergency and Confrontation:<br />

<strong>Australian</strong> Military Operations in Malaya and Borneo 1950-1966 (1996). He was<br />

joint editor, with John Coates, of the seven-volume <strong>Australian</strong> Centenary History of<br />

Defence (2001).<br />

Edward J. Drea works for the Historical Office, Office of the Secretary of Defense,<br />

Washington, DC, where he is writing the history of the office from 1965 to 1969. He is<br />

a graduate of Canisius College, Buffalo, New York, Sophia University, Tokyo, and the<br />

University of Kansas. He has taught at the US Command and General Staff College and<br />

the US <strong>Army</strong> War College, and served as Chief of the Research and Analysis Division, US<br />

<strong>Army</strong> Center of Military History. He is the author of MacArthur’s ULTRA: Codebreaking<br />

in the War against Japan (1992) and In the Service of the Emperor: Essays on the Imperial<br />

Japanese <strong>Army</strong> (1998), as well as numerous articles on the Pacific War.<br />

Peter Edwards is the Official Historian of Australia’s involvement in Southeast Asian<br />

conflicts 1948-1975, and the author of two of the volumes in the series. He is currently a<br />

Visiting Professor in the School of Politics at the University of New South Wales at the<br />

<strong>Australian</strong> Defence Force Academy, and is writing a biography of Sir Arthur Tange.<br />

Jeffrey Grey is Associate Professor of History at the University of New South Wales at<br />

the <strong>Australian</strong> Defence Force Academy. A graduate of the <strong>Australian</strong> National University<br />

and the University of New South Wales, he is the author of a number of books on<br />

<strong>Australian</strong> military history including, most recently, A Military History of Australia (2nd<br />

edn, 1999); The <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Army</strong> (2001), vol. I in The <strong>Australian</strong> Centenary History<br />

of Defence; and, with Jeff Doyle and Peter Pierce, Australia’s Vietnam War (2002). In<br />

2000-02 he was Major General Matthew C. Horner Professor of Military Theory at the<br />

US Marine Corps University, Quantico, Virginia.<br />
