Originally thisoffice was in the Reich Ministry
of the Interior. In 1943 it probably passe»; under the
{eneral supervision, if not control, of RuSHA.
It controlled the SS Entlassungtelle (Dis­
charge Office) It was responsible for the retraining,
rehabilitation, and discharge of medically unfit SS men.
Verein "Lebensborn e.V."(The Lebensborn
Society);, "Lebensborn" was a registered society attached

It was responsible for the care for children of SS men»
There was fairly close cooperation between RuSHA and Le­
bensborn, owing to the overlapping nature of their work*
Functionally, Lebensborn represented an extension of the
field of activity of RuSIlA. It was incorporated in
RuS T IA, although It retained Its separate Identity.
This office was the executive headquarters of
the society. It controlled the Lebensborn homes, dealt
with the ordinary business of the society, and with
RuSHA, which was the normal channel through which Infi
