d. During the EaT* Voml was the chief Reich
agency carrying out larg sea» .repatriation ra sasures, Uy
July 1944 it had handled over 900,000 persons for resettle­
ment. VOM had field offices for this purpose., Although
it was not the only organization charged with resettlement,
it was probably the most important operating agency of
the Reich in thin field= For this purpose VÖMI undoubt­
edly helped, to build up a file; of all ethnic Germans living
abroad which was kept in the office cf the Reich Commissioner
for the consolidation of Gerroandom.
Vomi's relation to the Um s1e rilung gam t (Hesettle-
ment Office) which was also lender VKerner Lorenx but which
was part of the 3S Rasse- und Siedlungshauptamt, is not
entirely clear. It is possible that VOMI acted as the
executive branch of the latter in its resettlement activities.
For purposes of resetttemerit VOKI controlled a'private'
company, the Deutsche Uwsleilungsgeaellechaft (German
Resettlement Company)
e. Voml had a definite say in the supervision
of German minorities abroad, a function which it probably
shared with the Volksbundfurdas Deutschtum im Ausland (VDA»
Folk League for Gerinandom Abroad)i Vomi paid subsidies
