In Malaysia, the Group has contributed<br />

towards the construction of suraus and<br />

mosques as a way of bringing communities<br />

closer together. Our support is also<br />

extended to single mothers, orphans,<br />

Cancer Research Fund, Disaster Relief Fund<br />

as well as directly to victims of natural<br />

disasters such as the landslide in Putrajaya<br />

and floods in Pahang and Johor. Education<br />

is an area that is close to our heart and<br />

we have donated to various bodies such<br />

as Education Trust Funds, Save the Kids<br />

Education Fund, Poor Students Trust Fund<br />

and the Ipoh Tutorial Centre, among others.<br />

Annual scholarships are provided by the<br />

Group to needy and deserving students,<br />

helping them realise their academic and<br />

career ambitions. These scholarships<br />

are provided in conjunction with leading<br />

Malaysian dailies and scholarship bodies.<br />

Scholarships to the tune of hundreds<br />

of thousands of Ringgit are disbursed<br />

annually under the MAPCU Scholarship<br />

Fund, Sin Chew Daily Education Fund and<br />

HOPE (Higher Opportunities for Private<br />

Education) Scholarships.<br />

Our CSR outreach programmes continue to<br />

expand in tandem with the geographical<br />

reach of the Group’s operations. In<br />

Indonesia, where the Group has a<br />

significance presence, we have built an<br />

orphanage under the auspices of the<br />

Shamsuddin Abdul Kadir Foundation<br />

to house the 80 victims of the tsunami<br />

disaster in 2004. The Group is now into<br />

the fourth year of providing funding for<br />

the Rumah Anak Yatim Sapura, which<br />

currently houses some 102 children. During<br />

the year, the funding allocated was used<br />

for refurbishment and upgrading works,<br />

making the hostel a more hospitable place<br />

for the children to call home.<br />

The top echelons of management are<br />

directly involved in the Group’s CSR efforts,<br />

setting the vision and direction for the<br />

programme administrators to follow.<br />

Through their initiatives, the Group has<br />

sponsored tuition classes for orphans as<br />

well as set up a library, Resource Centre<br />

and a Computer Centre at the orphanages.<br />

A great deal of effort and resources are<br />

channeled into our CSR programmes.<br />

Each year, they are carefully reviewed to<br />

determine where improvements can be<br />

made. By giving back to society, we hope to<br />

make the difference in the many lives we<br />

touch.<br />
