COMPETENCE CENTRES
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
The general objective of the Competence Centre Programme run by Enterprise Estonia is to
improve the competitiveness of enterprises through strategic cooperation of science and
industry sectors in Estonia. Competence centres are small R&D organisations jointly established
and operated by a number of companies and universities. The main characteristic of
such centres is a strong focus on applied research, which is needed for the product development
of the founders of these centres.
As of spring 2007 there are five competence centres: Electronics, Information and Communication
Technologies; Food and Fermentation Technologies; Healthy Dairy Products; Nanotechnologies;
and Cancer Research.
