99 Hyperbaric Oxygenation Therapy <strong>KCE</strong> Reports 74 9 APPENDICES APPENDIX FOR THE CHAPTER ON CLINICAL EFFECTIVENESS (CHAPTER 3) SEARCH STRATEGY As explained in the chapter on clinical effectiveness, most of the individual RCTs have been performed in small groups. Therefore, we have focussed our search on metaanalyses and systematic reviews. Exploratory searches learned that the MeSH term ‘hyperbaric oxygenation’ covered very well the subject but we additionally also used these words as keyword in our Medline and Embase searches. All searches were performed in early December 2007 and details about the searches in Medline/Pubmed and Embase are shown in Table 38. We additionally searched the CRD databases (DARE, NHS/EED and HTA) with the MeSH term ‘Hyperbaric oxygenation’, providing 48 hits, and the several Cochrane databases with the same MeSH term leading to 271 documents. Overall 472 references were obtained through this procedure, in many cases, however, either duplicates of what was detected in the previous searches or individual clinical trials. After electronic elimination of duplicates we retained 372 references. The final selection and exclusion process of manuscripts is represented in the flow chart in Figure 1 in the chapter on clinical effectiveness. Table 38.
