<strong>of</strong> Arts at that school. Also that <strong>of</strong> M. A. at Union College. From 1837<br />

to 1839 he was Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> North Fairfield Academy, <strong>in</strong> Fairfield County,<br />

Conn. He attended Yale College Law School 1840-1841, under Judges<br />

Daggett and Hitchcock. He was admitted to <strong>the</strong> New York State Bar, and<br />

settled <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> practice <strong>of</strong> law at Saratoga Spr<strong>in</strong>gs, N. Y., <strong>in</strong> 1843. He was<br />

never an <strong>of</strong>fice holder, o<strong>the</strong>r than as Deputy Collector at <strong>the</strong> Port <strong>of</strong> New<br />

York dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> adm<strong>in</strong>istration <strong>of</strong> President L<strong>in</strong>coln.<br />

Timothy Dwight was a grandson <strong>of</strong> (Rev.) Dr. Dwight, President <strong>of</strong><br />

Yale College. He was a scholar <strong>of</strong> rare atta<strong>in</strong>ments and <strong>of</strong> wonderful ma<strong>the</strong>matical<br />

abilities. His bus<strong>in</strong>ess life was devoted chiefly to manufactur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

pursuits, <strong>in</strong> which he displayed f<strong>in</strong>e executive talent <strong>in</strong> conduct<strong>in</strong>g large enter-<br />

prises. He settled first <strong>in</strong> New Haven, Conn., removed <strong>the</strong>nce to Beloit,<br />

Wis., and f<strong>in</strong>ally to Chicago. His wife died at S. Evanston, near Chicago,<br />

and her rema<strong>in</strong>s were <strong>in</strong>terred <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>family</strong> bury<strong>in</strong>g ground <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dwights at<br />

New Haven, Conn.<br />
