Lived <strong>in</strong> Brookfield, and marched from <strong>the</strong>re <strong>in</strong> Capt. John Wolcott's<br />

Company <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> " Lex<strong>in</strong>gton Alarm." Served 8 months <strong>in</strong> Capt. John<br />

Cowles' Co. <strong>of</strong> Woodbridge's Regt., be<strong>in</strong>g stationed at Cambridge. This<br />

regiment served at Bunker Hill. He is supposed to have re-enlisted at<br />

<strong>the</strong> expiration <strong>of</strong> his term, about Jan. 1, 1776, as he was <strong>in</strong> service <strong>in</strong> August<br />

<strong>of</strong> that year, at Ticonderoga and Fort Edward, as a Corporal <strong>in</strong> Hamilton's<br />

Co. <strong>of</strong> Brewer's Regt. In Feb., 1777, he was at Brookfield as a member <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> 1st Co. <strong>of</strong> " Matross" (Artillery), at which time he enlisted for three years<br />

<strong>in</strong> Capt. Noah Nichol's Co. <strong>of</strong> Gen. Knox's Artillery, <strong>in</strong> which he was commissioned<br />

2d Lieut. June 11, 1778, hav<strong>in</strong>g before that date served 16% months<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> army. In Jan. and <strong>in</strong> Feb., 1779, he was <strong>in</strong> command at Brookfield<br />

<strong>of</strong> a company <strong>of</strong> volunteers guard<strong>in</strong>g military stores. Soon after this he<br />

resigned from <strong>the</strong> service. He removed to Hartland; <strong>in</strong> 1792 to Lyman, N. H.<br />

and came to this town about 1780. He was a Carpenter and was employed on<br />

<strong>the</strong> "Old Court House" <strong>in</strong> 1801, as appears by Col. Johnson's account. He is<br />

said to have used <strong>the</strong> "square rule" <strong>in</strong> fram<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> timber, <strong>the</strong> first time it was<br />

used here. He died at <strong>the</strong> house <strong>of</strong> Joseph Prescott; buried <strong>in</strong> Rogers Hill<br />

Cemetery. His descendants were usually connected with <strong>the</strong> M. E. Church.<br />
