Drainage
It is recommended that current guidance with respect soil shrinkage/heave associated
with trees/hedgerows is followed; this should be based on a medium volume change
potential for the natural clays.
Ground bearing floor slabs are considered appropriate with the made ground sorted and
re-engineered prior to floor construction.
Subsurface concrete should be designed in accordance with BRE Special Digest 1:2005
Design Sulphate Class DS-1 and ACEC classification AC-1.
A preliminary CBR value of 5% is considered appropriate for made ground granular soils
and weathered sandstone subgrades with 2% for natural clays, subject to proof rolling.
On site CBR testing is recommended prior to pavement construction.
Soakaway drainage of surface water is not considered appropriate.
